Q: Are there actually 42 foam balls included in the one basket? I’ve read conflicting reviews.

Yes. I counted because I saw the question. I had 12 orange, 12 green, 9 yellow, & 9 white. 42. Feel like great quality and the basket is nice too.

Q: Do these balls roll decently well? I am setting up a Putt Putt course inside our church and a little worried about using real golf balls.

They do roll but are light so they don’t behave as well as the real thing. They should be good for the indoor use you have in mind, I would think.

Q: Can you distinguish the distance between each club with these balls or do you analyze the height of the flight?

I don’t believe you’ll gage any relevant feedback as far as distance is concerned. However, you can tell if you slice or hook and the height of the shot.

Q: Soft, spongy, like a stress ball, or brittle, stiff, like styrofoam? Need soft kind at a good price, not for golf.

Somewhere between soft and spongy and stiff. I have purchased several foam golf balls, I would rate these balls on par with the Callaway balls in terms of consistency, but perhaps not quite as well manufactured (i.e., the Callaway balls arguably have a smoother and higher quality finish). They are more dense than the low-cost ($4/dozen) foam balls sometimes available on Amazon, and are definitely not the styrofoam-type balls, which I also use on occasion. If the Callaway foam balls meet your requirements but are too expensive, then I recommend this offering.
