How did I live without it??
What a GREAT addition to my room full of junk and power tools... This drill press is a BEAST... It's twice the size of my little old SKIL, which you can see in the pictures... The SKIL did a good job for me, but I outgrew it... Once I found out that drill presses with variable speed existed, IT WAS ON!!! I had to have one... No more messing with loosening the motor and sticking my fingers into the belt & pulleys... That had gotten old a long time ago...I've only had it for a few days now... I love it... It'll probably be the last drill press I'll ever need to buy...ACCURACY: Seems to be accurate, as the tip of the drill bit hits right where the lasers cross... I don't have a dial indicator to check the runout, but I'm sure it will serve me just fine... I'm not running a machine shop, and I don't need accuracies down to the thousandths of an inch...EASY TO ASSEMBLE: No, not entirely... But I was doing a couple other things during the process, like drinkin' beer, and helping my buddy with his trailer hitch... The column-to-base bolts call for a 16mm wrench... I bought a whole set of ratchet wrenches a couple years ago, but there was NO 16mm in there... I found a socket to fit, 5/8" I think... The hardest part of the assembly was lifting the head up onto the column... It's quite heavy and unbalanced... A second pair of hands would've been a plus... My trailer hitch buddy had already left...VALUE FOR MONEY: I shopped around 4-5 online sites for 3 weeks, and I kinda felt like I was being "spyed upon"... It seemed to me that they were bidding amongst each other for my money... The prices quoted for this machine on different sites kept fluctuating every couple days... It was truly weird... I think I'm gonna buy a VPN next... But anyway, for all the features this machine has, I think it's worth every bit of what I paid for it... It TOWERS over my old drill press, so I don't have to squat down or sit to use it... It's REAL good looking, like the STAR of my workshop... The table with the extension that swivels and bevels adds ALOT to the package... The swivel feature is kinda messed up, as it relates to that rack gear on the side of the column... The rack gear ends just ride in the top (orange) and bottom collars, and can get bound up if not guided along during swivel... (??Did that come out right??) And, of course, like a kid in a toy store, I had to open the lid on top to watch how the variable speed worked... It's pretty neat...But, the MOST BRILLIANT part of the entire design of the machine is... ...wait for it... ...you'll never believe it over everything else I mentioned... THE CHUCK KEY itself gets 6 out of 5 stars for it's design... Sticking out from the center of the key is a small pin with a spring behind it... It is IMPOSSIBLE to forget the chuck key and turn the power switch ON... That sprung pin pushes the key out of the chuck... I don't know if this design has been around for a while, as this is the 1st drill press I've bought in a LONG time... This chuck key design should've been implemented on ALL styles of chucks for the last 50 years... ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!YES to "would buy again"... And Again, And Again, if needed... Nice machine for an novice to half-pro environment... It might last in a PRO environment (machine shop) if taken care of... It's really quite the nice machine... Thanx WEN, and Thanx Amazon... GOOD DAY...

Astounding quality and value for $250.00
First off, I am not a 5 star rate-r. The fifth star, for me, relates to product manufacturer customer service. Since Amazon is the customer service front end it would be silly to rate it 5 star. The drill press, when received, was well packaged and free from exterior damage. The interior packaging was well done with a Styrofoam clam-shell that protected each of the components from drop-age as well as separating each of the assemblies. The press assembled in about 15 minutes and and additional 10 minutes of adjustment. The instructions were clear and in english but really I only referred to the instruction to verify chuck install. Before I assembled I did clean the smoo off of the column, table, and base. The head unit only weighs about 35lbs so setting it atop the column wasn't to difficult.Once I had the head unit installed I then did a good job of cleaning the quill, taper and chuck. It is imperative to do an excellent job of cleaning the this assembly to get a tight(safe) fit that has minimal run-out.The first thing I did to determine if the motor had enough power was to load a 1-5/8" Forsner bit and drill some 5/4" oak... it stalled on the first three but did better the more holes I drilled. I attribute that to "wearing in the belt and pulley". I have had no more issues with stalling.Overall quality of the tool is exceptional considering it was only $250.00, $20.00 less than Hazard Fraught. All accessory lights run through the main switch(no batteries). Lasers are a crutch and should not be relied on for accuracy. The work light is nice. The digital readout out is for general reference at best but it is nice as well as helpful. The adjustable speed is the ticket, I love it. My prior drill press needed belt changes so I ran it at 900rpm and dealt with it. Now, I can slow it down for steel with a flip of the lever.WHAT THIS PRESS IS NOT: This is not a $2000.00 Powermatic press, $300 Micro-Mark Micro press, or a $3500 Dayton Mill Press. This is not an industrial press (they don't claim it is)WHAT THIS PRESS IS: An exceptional value hobby or light production drill press. If this drill press is in your Garage shop it will do very well for you.

Great value for the price
I use this drill press in my wood shop. I don't know why I waited so long to purchase a drill press, it should have been one of my first tool purchases. I have only been using this for about a week now on a project that requires a lot of screw holes that need to be placed precisely so that everything lines up --- the holes will be plugged and in view. I coupled this drill press with a drill press table/jig ( Woodpecker ) to make it a power house of a tool --- they have made this job so easy and looking great. The Wen is solidly built with a powerful motor, which I think is pretty quiet. So easy to use the variable speed. The LED spotlight is great. Putting the tool together didn't take very long at all --- all parts fit very well. The heavy duty chuck works great and appears to spin very true. This thing weighs around 80 pounds, so is pretty hefty for a bench top tool. I put it on a dedicated stand and bolted it down as suggested and it is very solid. When I first started researching a drill press I was going to get an 8" or a 10" but for the price difference to upgrade to a 12" I figured " why not ". I'm so glad I did --- I think this thing is a beast, and is going to give me many years of service. I haven't really used the laser, because of the drill press table/jig it really is not needed, but may come in handy when the table/jig is not used. I think this is one of my better tool purchases, and as I said before, is definitely a great value for the price ---- I would not hesitate to purchase another WEN tool.
