John Williams In Vienna (Live)[Blu-ray]

This is an enjoyable Blu Ray concert with superior sound options. It hits the highlights of some of John Williams more familiar film scores, although I would have enjoyed "Hymn to the Fallen" and something from the "Home Alone" movies. Also something from one of the western movies he wrote scores for.

First 10 seconds of play in my home theater and was blown away and very happy with the sound quality of the recording. The songs are of course great and it's wonderful to see the players generate these classic tracks live in front of you. Mr. Williams won't be around forever, but it's great to have this piece of history in the can and in such a top-shelf capture.

One of the best concerts both visually and sound that you will ever see. You must add this to your collection.

Great for the home theater with or without atmos. A must for the library.

John Williams is truly one of a kind. His music is extraordinary and gives me great Joy. His music adds depth to the movies he has scored and I think he will be terribly missed when he retires.

A couple of months ago I bought the 2-CD set of the live version of this concert. Then I found out this BluRay was available. It's all the same material, but with gorgeous high-definition images to go with the audio ... a no brainer. I probably won't bother listening to the CDs any longer. If you haven't had the opportunity to see John Williams conduct in person, this is the closest you can get! Mr. Williams is shown to be a brilliant, yet humble and soft-spoken man. The technical quality of the video is superb. If there's any downside to the material, I have to say the contribution of violinist Anne Sophie Mutter seems to be a bit over-interpreted, changing some beautiful, relaxed melodies like Hedwig's Theme into frenetic and inharmonic passages, reminiscent of Charles Ives. If you like Ives, perhaps you will enjoy Ms. Mutter's interpretations more than I. Perhaps her followers expect that from her, so she gives them what they want. By the way, don't pay attention to the note in the description about the playback region, the disc is All Regions and plays fine in North America.

Über diese herrliche Einspielung ist es sicher nicht nötig, nochmal alles zu wiederholen, was viele andere Rezensenten schon so eloquent und detailliert beschrieben haben. Nur ein paar Worte zur Audioqualität: nach der Entdeckung der einschlägigen unglaublichen youtube-Videos hab ich hier auf Amazon zunächst eine (die?) CD entdeckt (John-Williams-Vienna/dp/B08GLWBTSP), gekauft und besprochen (gp/customer-reviews/R2WNRKGOBSENQV). Nanu: die youtube-Videos klangen deutlich BESSER?? Waren diese Videos--und ihr Audio--vielleicht statt dessen von der vorliegenden BluRay? Gekauft, bestätigt und dabei vom Klang völlig hingerissen, wie viele andere Rezensenten hier auch! Kein Vergleich mit der CD... Meine absolute Lieblingsstelle ist im Imperial March der Einsatz der Hörner: man achte ganz genau auf die Phrasierung! "Meisterhaft" ist viel zu wenig gesagt...

Da diversi anni conosco la musica di John Williams, credo che sia uno dei più grandi autori di musica contemporanea. Questo BlueRay è meraviglioso sia per la qualità delle immagini sia per la qualità dell'incisione. In stereo è ottimo, non ho potuto ancora testarlo in un sistema multicanale.

First rate recording. If you have a good sound system & like John Williams music this Blu-ray is highly recommended..
