This Bluray repackaged version is the limit when compressing the series to as few discs as possible.
I've owned the DVD version (3 separate seasons) which is ok for DVD. I waited for years to see what developed for Bluray. I finally laid down my cash for what I thought was a good choice only to find out that it was the wrong choice. I had picked up the 3-disk Bluray version only to find that the compression used caused my very expensive Bluray (SONY UBP-X800M2 enh) to skip various frames from scenes of the show I knew very well. Needless to say, but my Bluray player "ain't" the problem. I have a Bluray diagnostic disc that reports that. Well I immediately ordered the repackaged Bluray version which contains the three separate seasons of four discs each. This Bluray set played flawlessly. No frames or scenes missing. I'm happy now. Buy this version for flawless viewing. I guess there is a limit to how much compression can be used to squeeze these episodes on to as few discs as possible. Compressing this series down to one disc per season is a mistake. You've been warned.

Great series!
I'd have given it 5 stars, but 1 episode in the first season was messed up. Picture was fine but the soundtrack was way off. Worst than any Asian dubbed film from the 80's. Other than that all of the disks worked fine, and the picture was great. Glad I bought it. On a side note, Al should have killed Trixie, and some one, should have put that drunk Jane out of her misery!

One of the greatest f****** shows ever.Definitely not for the squeamish, or those sensitive to an absolutely brutal use of the English language. But it is a beautiful language to hear (and learn; I highly recommend the subtitles for sure when starting out, or it will all sound like pure gibberish initially as you get accustomed). It is also one of the most powerful exorcisms of humanity's dark side ever put on film, all right there staring back at you from start to finish. There are scenes in this show that are so heartbreaking, so heartwarming, tear jerking, and profound (looking at you, Preacher), which you will never forget. And others that will make you feel disgusted and ashamed for living in this world as a human being, which you'll wish you'd never seen (looking at you, "Geologist").You'll want to tell all of your friends it's the greatest show ever and that they should really watch it. Just know that it's like telling someone to go read Ulysses, or listen to Trout Mask Replica. They just might see it, and you both may "get it" and absolutely adore it, but how do you really describe it to anyone? What makes it so great? You could write a dissertation on it's themes, it's characters, it's story-arcs, it's socio-economic implications. The most you can really do with a friend is quote it endlessly (some of the phrases are great while driving angrily in traffic) and appreciate it for what it is. A powerful work of art with a golden soul.David Milch is a genius of the slow-burn, tension-building storyline and I'm just happy he was able to do what he did with it, while he could still do it (The movie is a must-see after finishing the show, as it will probably be the last thing he ever writes), but I'll always wish for more each time I finish.Deadwood will never be forgotten.Bottomline: Just buy the f****** show you l*****d*** c***s*****, you'll love it forever.

Love it or hate it, I love it
I had bought a second season set, which only half worked, and so never risked buying the third season, though I loved season 1. Nice to finally see it all, DVD's all work, and in one convenient to set. And a real shame it got cancelled. Tough and gritty and lots of language and "unseemly" stuff going on. If you have a clear "good guys and bad guys" view of history, then you will absolutely hate this. But, if you're more realistic about historical humans widely ranging on the bell curve of possible behaviors, with quirks and shifts in circumstances, and get a kick out of people using rough but poetic language, then you're in for a treat. Mark Twain would have secretly approved, Nuff said. In a word, brilliant! My favorite "Western".

Excellent western series
Series has way too much cursing. If you remove the curse words, it would be a silent movie. Other than that, very realistic western

Great stories, well told, one after another!
Deadwood, visualized and created by David Milch (of NYPD Blue among others), was to my mind his greatest work. Over three seasons, an entire physical town was built, and an ongoing story line grew over the years, often referring back on itself, and growing in unexpected ways. And it was not just the writing that propelled the series to its unprecedented heights in the world of TV drama. The casting of very skillful actors and an experienced, professional crew, put it over the top. Everyone involved clearly believed and freely declared that Deadwood was the most exciting piece of work with which they had ever been associated. The complete set I am ordering now will be my second. The first box, I gave to a friend after watching it end-to-end several times; including all the bonus reels (which are definitely worth the time). Some people will be scared away by the relentlessly foul language. Oh, well. This was an outlaw town, folks. Just one more piece of real estate stolen back from the original inhabitants (the "dirt worshipers", as Al Swearengen would say), as soon as it was discovered that the Black Hills were riddled with gold. Life was cheap, death came easy and was seldom nice. An awards ceremony was held in L.A. during the period between seasons three and four, a video of which is included in the boxed set, and most of the cast were present. Every one of them was excited, as season four and the closing moments of the show approached. Then, for reasons undisclosed, HBO cancelled the series. Economics, I suppose. Production costs surely spiraled upward over the years. Something that beautiful doesn't come cheap.

Not Collector Packaging
Very disappointed. Thought we were getting the blu-ray set with the discs in book-like packaging with photos of the actors. Discs came in 3 blu-ray cases. Buyer beware as the outer package looks exactly the same for both sets. Certain the show is great but as a collector not happy.

Well lets be Very Clear on one thing an one thing only..this has the most vile an outrageous language EVER..so if you’re so incline not to be subjected to the foul smell of Ian McShane mouth piece. don’t go to Deadwood” cause.you’re not welcome period because the smell is everywhere. I didn’t know they swear this much in the old west.C this an F this an every adjective you can’t find in the Dictionary you will most get it right here in Deadwood.but make no mistake this is very good they’re some very funny moments with Wild Bill Hickok an his nemesis. an you might wantto stay away from Bacon for awhile. I tell you I never knew? boy its funny so if your fun wheel don’t spin as much. can’t help you.I Love It Much.....

Brutal, Profane, Brilliant!!
I own the complete series on dvd but I bought it on blu-ray because I loaned the dvd collection to friends and didn't want to be without it for a moment . . . it's that good. To me it is to TV series what The Godfather 1 and 2 are to movies; everything you need to know about humanity can be learned by watching them. Also, you won't find a greater collection of incredibly talented character actors anywhere.

The wild west
This TV series is about how life was back in the early days of Deadwood before it becomes part of the new state of South Dakota. If you can get past the swear words, you will see how the lives of the people intertwine and clash. There is serious moments but there is a lot of humor in it. You find out one of the respected and tough guys in the series really has a soft heart for others. I do say it is a very enjoyable series. Even with the film that came out later; I wish there was more to see. A lot of story is based on real people.

A Superb Series
There aren't very many series which can top 'Deadwood'. It's a 'rough' show (language-warning, etc...), but the characters are so well acted that the story just draws a person in. A follow-up Deadwood movie is due to be released this year. Hoping that the movie will close out the story which had been put on hold when the series was cancelled 10+ years ago.
