Can you attach the screen first and then raise it to the height you need, or do you need be tall to attach the screen to the crossbar?

You can adjust the height at anytime at base, this makes it easy to attach green screen.

If I wanted to hang the sheet horizontal instead of vertical (6.5 ft wide), Is it possible to buy extra bars to extend the width?

The fabric is not that expandable,so no.Would be awesome, but no.

I need a privacy screen while camping, but those are expensive. Could one or two of these work as camping privacy?

Depends on what kind of privacy, def won’t work for noise reduction, it’s a backdrop, if you want it to block Anyone from seeing in, sure
