Glucose Meter
This is one of the cheaper meters, but meters can be gotten for free.It is the cost of the test strips, in some cases more than a Dollar a piece! The test strips for this meter are about the cheapest around, but they are so awkward to use. You have to apply the blood sample on the strip, and it needs more blood than other strips, and then insert the strip in to the meter. It takes about twice as long for the results to appear, so I wonder if it is worth the money savings?

Preferred monitor for non-diabetics!
The Prestige IQ system does require more blood to get a reading. However, it should be noted that the Prestige IQ is NOT a plasma monitor!!! It measures WHOLE BLOOD glucose. This is very important for non-diabetics who are attempting to keep their BG in a very narrow range (70-100)! While plasma glucose monitors (more common) are designed for diabetics who tend to have either extremely high (>150) or extremely low (<50) BG readings, whole blood monitors are particularly beneficial for non-diabetics whose BG either is in the normal 80-100 range, hypoglycemics (~50 range) who must know the exact amount of glucose in the blood ALL DAY, and for those on the Ketogenic Diet (BG must be kept in the 60-80 range).Plasma Glucose monitors are most accurate when BG tend to be EXTREMELY HIGH, requiring the use of insulin or extremely low (requires medical attention). Therefore, Plasma Glucose monitors do not help those who are non-diabetic as they do not give detailed reading for the 50-100 range! Whole Glucose monitors are the only monitors accurate in the 50-110 range! I and several friends have been using this Prestige IQ Whole Glucose monitor for over 3 years. I use it as I am on a variationn of the Ketogenic Diet. One friend, a morbidly obese pre-diabetic, has used it to successfully bring her BG into the normal range as well as lose 100#! Two friends (hypoglycemic) have used it alter the diet until BG is in a normal range! I could go on, but the point is that, while plasma glucose monitors work well for diabetics, they do NOT WORK WELL for non-diabetics. Whole Blood Glucose monitors meet this need! I am glad to see it back on the market! If you are a diabetic, you will most likely prefer a plasma glucose monitor. If you are a non-diabetic, you may want to try this monitor, a whole blood glucose monitor.mary
