.com Don't look for a richly illustrated, critical essay-packed hagiography with this 40-track, double-disc overview of the Bee Gees recording career. In typical, telling fashion, the Brothers Gibb have eschewed such exercises in ego inflation and simply let the best of their remarkable body of music speak for itself. Through it all, their familiar voices lock together in the sort of transcendent, seemingly genetic harmony that few singers since the Everly Brothers (early Gibb inspirations) have managed. Beginning with the plaintive 1966 hit "New York Mining Disaster 1941," this set traces the Gibbs' journey from successful Beatles-era balladeers to '70s white R&B gods and the undisputed kings of disco (we're reminded here that their shrewd metamorphosis began with "Nights on Broadway" and "Jive Talkin'"--long before the mega-success of "Saturday Night Fever"). But even as that dance craze faded, again threatening to turn the Bee Gees into pop anachronisms, the Gibbs simply stepped out of the limelight for a while, turning their talents to MOR hit-making for the likes of Samantha Sang, Dolly Parton, Barbra Streisand, and Dionne Warwick. Those hits ("Emotion," "Heartbreaker," "Islands in the Stream") are featured here in modern rerecordings by the band, along with the Streisand-Barry Gibb duet, "Guilty." And if the Gibbs haven't had much of an American chart presence in recent years, they remain superstars throughout the rest of the world, a richly crafted pop music presence that simply won't be denied. --Jerry McCulley

Look no further...this is definitely the collection you want
If you grew up in the 1970's you probably bought a lot of Bee Gees records. Just about everyone did. In fact, I could be wrong but as far as I can tell their string of 6 consecutive #1 hits in the late 70's is unprecedented. Elvis never did it. Neither did the Beatles, Elton John, Springsteen, Michael Jackson or for that matter Frank Sinatra. It was truly a remarkable run. If you grew up in the 1960's you also probably bought a lot of Bee Gees records. In those days they were a phenonenon on both sides of the Atlantic and in Australia as well. They have left us an incredible body of work. And without a doubt the finest collection of the Bee Gees is "The Record".Released by Universal in 2001, this 2 CD collection contains 40 of the groups biggest hits from their debut 1966 Australian single "Spicks and Specks" to the groups very final single release in 2001. Of course you will also find each and every one of the groups major chart hits including memorable tunes like "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "Night Fever", "Nights on Broadway" and oh so many more. Aside from their obvious vocal skills, Barry Robin and Maurice Gibb were also very gifted and prolific songwriters. In fact, for all practical purposes the group only sang songs they themselves wrote. In fact, as far as I can tell the Gibbs penned every one of the tunes on these discs. Amazing! I would also like to recommend a few of my personal favorites including "I Started A Joke", "Fanny (Be Tender WIth My Love)" and the groups last Top Ten Hit "One" from 1989."The Record" comes complete with a nicely done 12 page booklet recalling the glory days of this remarkable group. Sadly, we lost Maurice Gibb altogether too soon in 2003 at the age of 53. But "The Record" will allow us to celebrate rhe music of the Bee Gees for many years to come. Highly recommended!

Excellent 2 disc compilation
I read a review that described this item as the best compilation of the BeeGees, that contains their hit songs from the sixties through the nineties. Also included are some songs I never heard before, a nice surprise, especially the older ones. The melodic harmonies of their voices is most evident on the sixties songs, really stunning and unique. Included in the CD insert is info on each song, release dates and the author(s). Song words are not included so I bought a BeeGees songbook for guitar that mostly fills that bill. Excellent sound. Very happy that I read that Amazon review because I am very happy with this item.

Love this cd set!
I used to have this cd set when I was younger but lost both cds during a move. It made me sad because I’ve always been a fan of The Bee Gees. One day I looked it up and I found it on here so I had to order it. It came two days later and I played it in my car. Good old memories, I’m glad I ordered it! If you’re a Bee Gee’s fan order it!

Great Music/Exceeded Ship Date
Amazing music from the BeeGees. Nice to hear the "real" versions of the hits they gave away to others. Not sure what the thinking was with Islands In The Stream. Glad to hear Robin sing it but it is in some weird mashup style. Great quality. Shipping was exceeded by two days! I was supposed to get it on a Saturday and it arrived on a Thursday.
