All 3 kinds of sides work better than any of the dozens of other different kinds I've bought from Amazon.There's 2 maroon sides for shaping and filing off rough edges, splits, chips, ridges and other rough imperfections which lead to breakage. They have the perfect grit and last longer than all the others I have tried from Amazon but they still wear down pretty fast and start becoming less effective. Having two of these sides helps prolong the usefulness because it's the side that wears down quickest.The grey side does a fantastic job of finishing what the red side started by buffing out imperfections and smoothing the entire surface and edges. This helps seal the nail and not only makes it nice and smooth and uniform, it gets rid of rough spots that eventually lead to major damage, splitting, chipping, pitting or thinning. Again, does a great job but it will eventually become less effective with use.White side finishes the buffing to a beautiful shine. Not entirely necessary for a healthy nail but it makes a pretty and very smooth shine and helps prolong the effectiveness of the buffing and protect the nail. You have to buff hard and fast to get the most effect. Do not store this in a place where it gets roughed up a bit like purse or a junk drawer where rummaging causes things to rub against it. This side will get ruined in no time. It can last as long as the others sides if you store it somewhere it won't be getting rubbed against other stuff but if you throw it in your purse, this side will rub off right away.I also like that the block and pads themselves are not too soft. I've tried many that are a little more spongey and the amount of give when I press into them makes it so much harder to do a good job. You can't get the force necessary and have to work a lot harder to get a decent buff and end up sliding off the block and jamming your finger a lot and I hate that. These blocks don't do that at all. And the pads are not too thick or too far from the edges of the block. I have had other blocks with pads that are too thick and a little farther from the edge and it causes a ton of issues for me when briskly buffing. This block is very good in the regard.Years ago I had file/buff blocks that lasted much longer but of all the ones I've been able to get in recent years, this is the best. It's definitely a little overpriced but since none of the others do a good job at all and last no time, I keep splurging on these. If they were less expensive, to offset how frequently I have to replace them, I would be perfectly happy with them and not still looking for an even better option.Careful how you store them and they'll serve you well.

One lasts me one use for all fingers and toes. I have seriously deep ridges on my nails though and I didn’t even get that much use from the cheaper ones. I like that there are two sides of the course option because that’s mostly what I’m looking for ... I don’t like my nails super shiny but if that’s what you want, this buffer will do it! It creates a perfect mirror gloss as long as you can get the ridges completely out. You can definitely get all the ridges out with this buffer but for me that would make my nails too thin so I don’t gloss them up or the ridges would be more obvious. Just started a biotin supplement so hopefully in 3-6 months I’ll have some healthier nails ...

I have not received this yet but I have bought them before they are the best nail buffers that are around! I have been looking for them for a long time and I was pleased to find them on Amazon! I will be excited to get it again it works so well and make sure nails so shiny!

Once, in the mall, I got stopped by a kiosk guy who had a nail buffing block. I was hooked in by the demo and bought one. I loved that thing for 10 years. It seriously lasted that long. I finally had to give up the ghost and find a new one. Thank goodness I found these. They work the exact same way, filing and buffing your nails to a high gloss shine. Great value for a great product that works as advertised.
