Fast, easy, cheap, fix!
Works perfect and installed quickly. I bought these to fix 3 dry rotted rubber seals on a 20 year old roof. I didn't want to risk damaging the existing shingles that are still in good condition. I did put a slip-over rubber seal on top of the dry rotted ones before installing these as a cheap 2nd line of protection, though I don't see how these would fail unless they crack for some reason. The top piece has a collar that fits inside of your current vent, then a lip that carries over to the outside of the lower sleeve, preventing water from getting to your old, rotted seal. This fits snug enough that it will not blow off. I like it so much that I bought a 4th one to install on my brother's roof for future-proofing.

Worked Great For Me
I bought three of the 3” ones for my roof. The ones up there were badly degraded, and leaking rainwater into the house in heavy rain. These installed very easily, are very secure, and look great.I did have to trim one of them down a little as the pipe on the roof was a bit short, but it was easy enough to do with just a beat up pair of shop scissors. They work great, and are much easier to get installed than replacement rubber gasket type pieces.Overall I highly recommend this product.

Easy fix except for getting up on a high pitched roof
Very easy to install. Would like it to be a little taller. I had to cut down my old cast iron pipe to make it fit properly. After that it was a slam dunk. Looks like it's really designed more for use with PVC pipe.

They Work Great...and Save You a Lot of Money
After a local roofing company gave us an $800 estimate to replace two leaking exhaust vents, I decided to give PermaBoot a try. When I went to install the Boots, I was worried at first because the one of the pipes was too high and looked like it would need to be cut down. (I do not own any sort of pipe-cutting saw or blowtorch and the pipe was very thick metal). Luckily however, the Boot was the exact size (three inch) to slide down and form an airtight fit with no gap...so we didn't even need to use the cap piece on it. The other exhaust vent was shorter and worked perfectly as instructed with the PermaBoot cap. It's been over a month and there has been no leaking at all, despite the fact that we have gotten a lot of heavy rain. I would highly recommend PermaBoot for anyone with leaking vent pipes. They work exactly as described and saved us over $750.00.

A quick fix for leaking vent stacks
I'm your Average Joe homeowner. After 15 years I've learned my limits and when to call a professional. The Perma-boot saved me some money from a professional roofing service call and will buy me some time until my roof is replaced. After the last round of heavy storms I inspected my attic for leaks as usual because I learned that it's a good idea to catch leaks early, which is when I discovered that the cellulose insulation around my two vent stacks was wet. So, I go outside with some large binoculars and look at the vent stacks. Sure enough I can see cracking and puckering of the rubber seal. My initial thought was that this was going to cost some money because my roof was already 18 years old. And I was pissed because I had three roofing companies inspect my roof earlier this summer and none mentioned the vent stack seals. I then tried to hire a roofing company to repair the vent stack seals and they were either booked due to the recent storm damage or didn't do repair work, and several handyman company's even turned down the work. That left me with little option but to try and fix the problem myself. My initial idea was to goop a bunch of sealant around the vent stack, but I couldn't reach the vent stack pipes without going up on the roof because they were about six feet up from the roof edge. And there was the issue with the steep pitch of my roof and loose granules. I thought about buying a $60 extended caulk gun, but the temperature here was dropping fast. However, I did have one of those extension grapper things called a nifty nabber. So, in my research for a solution I came across a roofing forum where someone posted about the Perma-boot. While the contractor's in that forum bad mouthed anything but a replacement of the rubber seal, one roofing installer mentioned the Perma-boot and how he put it on all vent stacks after he replaced a roof. I did some more research and decided that this might work; especially with the current rain and an approaching cold snap that would bring snow.I found the Perma-boots were available through Amazon.com. Two days later I had one installed by myself in less than ten minutes, including setting up the ladder. It was 34 degrees and sleet when I installed the first Perma-boot. I just used my extension grabber to reach the vent stack to slip the bottom piece over the pipe, which settled in place, then I slipped on the top piece. And because the fit was so tight I just tapped it a bit to see if it was the correct size and it settled it in place on top of the vent pipe, but I then couldn't get it off so that's where it will stay until next Spring when I inspect it again. After I borrowed a ladder tall enough to reach the second story roof, the second Perma-boot was installed the next day with one trip up the ladder using the same process as the first. Yeah, I didn't glue it in place, or caulk any of the seams, but then it was 19 degrees with a 30mph wind when I installed the second one two stories up. The Perma-boots are in place and I'll check on them and the attic periodically and I'll update this post with any new information. This was one of the easiest fixes I've done to my house considering the location and weather conditions. It was the perfect solution for my situation.UPDATE: It's 11/02/2014 and the Perma-boots have been up for almost a year and there are no leaks, even after record snow and cold from last Winter. I will definitely put these on the vent stacks when a new roof is installed.

Logical and effective solution to cracked flex seals
This is an amazing product that's easy to install. I'm an engineering and maintenance manager at work and also a handyman at home. I'm also a journeyman electrician and have had formalized carpentry education. However, I hate tearing shingles off roofs and skylights and all that stuff, it's like inviting disaster. This product is genius and goes on simple, use adhesive, don't skimp... Also, you have people mentioning that you may have to reduce the height of your stack and that this could cause a snow issue. This is not entirely accurate, the air coming from your stack will be warm enough to melt snow all year and the point of this product is to keep moisture out. The stack pipe is a drain line and the base of this product is large enough to prohibit snow from accumulating under the base, the point of the base is to KEEP moisture out. Good logical product.

A very good solution to a failing 3'' gasket seal on my vent pipe
Worked perfectly. I could not use the top cap that came with this boot because my vent pipe was too tall so I left it off. The instructions on the box indicated that very little or no sealant was necessary but I was not comfortable with that plan. I added black roof and flashing sealant to all seams including the bottom of the boot. I did not want snow and ice to force this boot out of place. I'm very pleased with this easy fix.
