Why do I have to pay annually

Because what you are getting is the equivalent of Office Professional 2013 which costs approx. £330 per machine and you are licenced to use it on 5 machines - if fully used the equivalent purchase price would be £1,650 - but with Office 365 you are renting it plus getting extra `cloud' storage via SkyDrive.If you did fully utilise it on 5 machines, the purchase price is equivalent to 24 years rental - if used on just one machine it is equivalent to nearly 5 years rental. Cheeky money-spinner

Would you like to try Office 365? Download is simple and quick - but Microsoft with then charge you for it annually or key apps like Word become disabled. However, this product is excellent, easy and fast to upload and frees up everything as before.

Microsoft 365 is one of the best office suites you can get. From the polished interface, features, services (including online storage) to the document support and mobile applications for iPad etc.. it's the suite to get for all your needs.There are some really decent alternatives, but for all my needs, this does it all and more at a fair price.

Cheaper first year subscription

Buying the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription online is currently £59.99 per year, and that's what it's going to cost me from the second year onward. However, buying the "Code by Post" option from Amazon at £44.98 saved me a little bit of money on the first year.

I ordered this - I thought it was going to be another digital delivery - nope.This particular one is a physical box and keycard inside.Once into the Office portal, it took mere seconds to type in the key and extend my subscription.Saved a few quid on the auto-renewal pricing direct from Microsoft too!
