Made wildfire smell from 150 miles away go away.
I bought this to help my family and I sleep without the smell of smoke when a wild fire was tearing up the forest about 150 miles from our home. I honestly cannot vouch for the complete irradiation of all unhealthy particles in our room, but I can say when I walked into the room it smelled clean. It immediately reminded me of the way the room smelled when I visited my Mom when she was in the ICU at the hospital... She got better :-) and so did the quality of the air in our bedroom.

Worth the extra $$$!
I have been using a Blueair for about 8 years for my husband's allergies. This time I decided to upgrade to this filter. The claim is that it not only filters the air, but also dispels odors. I was skeptical, but paid the extra anyway, because our bedroom is right next to the kitchen and I am tired of kitchen odors in my bedroom. It works! It really does get rid of cooking odors. Worth the extra money.

very good air filter that reduces my allergy symptoms
These filters are a little bit pricey, but they are very good. I have a lot of trouble with hay fever and allergies in general. I run my Blueair air filter at its lowest speed 24 per day every day in my bedroom. That along with keeping the room clean has done a lot to prevent allergy symptoms while I'm trying to sleep.

Very good quality filter lasts 6 months.
While this filter is expensive, I can tell from using it so far that it will last the 6 months mentioned by the manufacturer. Also, the filter is large and well made with 2 lbs. of activated carbon, which is much more than many other filters I looked at. I tried the regular filter first and found that this one definitely provides extra 'oomph' and a better quality of air that I prefer.

Expensive, but works!
4+ stars because costly. That's the only negative...Bought the "smokestop" to combat fumes & dirt from nearby electrical work & construction. The greasy black residue was CERTAINLY reduced. Oddly, the machines actually does "smell" when there is additional need & turn itself up if it is on "auto" setting! So, while quite expensive to own & run (we leave them on 24/7) I DO RECOMMEND the smokestop filter (if you need to charcoal layer) & the Blueair machines. We moved this machine from one area to another of our home, and he dust immediately began to accumulate in the area that no longer had a filter. We also have the less expensive to purchase Blueair model that you manually adjust (it doesn't have the cutie-pie display on top & a remote control--which we have never ever used). That one works equally well. Both are relatively innocuous in sound and appearance.I addition (because we have 2 little kids who've been living off/on through construction) we own a Honeywell machine. Much leas expensive to keep filters going (in this huge round, white machine), but it still keeps our electric bill up. It works equally well on cutting dust, but is TORNADO loud on high. All of the different certified HEPA air cleaners we have (add a GE & Honeywell to the mix) do keep dust at bay. We find a noticed reduction in seasonal allergies. Even found that those who are "usually" allergic to cats (we have one) always remark that they don't "feel itchy" at our house.** We also mop floors & vacuum upholstered furniture occasionally as CEHC (children's environmental health center) recommends this to reduce childhood exposure to household toxins. I'm sure this helps too.

I've used the regular particle filters for a couple years ...
I've used the regular particle filters for a couple years now and as soon as I used this filter it started making the air smell a little weird. It's also very pricey, those are the reasons I took 2 stars off. However, there is a noticeable difference in the air quality in the room where the air purifier is compared with the rest of the house- currently the Northern California fires are burning not too far from where I live.
