Major sleep hacking tool
I've used amber light bulbs in my bedside lamps as well as blue-blocker glasses for several years, and yes, they do seem to help improve sleep. However, as I get older, a restful, full night's sleep has become more elusive. Enter red lighting!!! I picked up the idea from various biohacker podcasters, and it's a game-changer. And no doubt these hooga red bulbs in particular are the ones to get. They are white out of the box, meaning the filament itself produces red light, with no blue light whatsoever, rather than cheaper bulbs that simply have a red covering (glass? plastic?) over a white light--which always has blue in it--filament. Note: I do not sleep with the bulb lit. Rather, I've replaced one of my bedside lamp bulbs with the red bulb and use it during bedtime routine, including reading in bed; the 1W bulb is plenty bright for all of this. I can actually feel my eyes relaxing and find I get sleepy and fall asleep more quickly, sleep longer and more deeply, and get back to sleep more easily if I wake up before intended. Note 2: I've also changed my iPad and phone screens to red--simply google "how to change your phone screen to red"--and still wear my blue blockers if I want to do something on-screen before falling asleep. (It's surely better not to do any screen time at all before bed, but . . . I'm experimenting.) I also purchased a hooga 7W red bulb for the living room but haven't tried it yet. I want to see whether I can use primarily/only? red lighting in my home after sunset. Will see how that goes. For now, if you are feeling sleep-challenged like me, I highly recommend trying out this bulb at least in the bedroom.
