Odd Frustrating Thread Issue, but Nice Bulb - Fixed! Updated! Buy this thing now!
I got this to upgrade an old 4 D cell mag-lite, serial number D401368482X. I bought this light YEARS ago and it has always worked well but just isn't that bright. The bulb came much quicker than Amazon said it would, only about 8 days instead of 2 or 3 weeks, and looked high quality. It would not, though, screw onto this mag-lite. I tried ten times, and even tried reverse threading it three times, but it just would not screw on. Oddest thing. I was not pleased. Then I remembered I had another 4 D cell mag-lite downstairs, also quite old. It's serial number is D400519910X. Seems to be an identical flashlight, save for being red. I took the top off that and this LED spun right on like it was meant to go there. First time, no problems at all. Oddest thing. The light is MUCH brighter and makes this old flashlight nearly as nice as some other ones I have. I have no idea why this bulb worked just fine with one mag-lite and not at all with the other.________________________________________________________________________I posted the review above. I got an email a few days later from a rep from the company explaining that Maglite had done an odd thing with threading of a few Maglites back in the day, but that that they'd now come up with a new LED that worked for all and he said apologized for the problem and said he'd send me a new LED. He did, I put it on my Maglite, and it screwed down as smooth as could be. Fantastic fit, much brighter, and EXCELLENT customer service. Thank you!

Effective LED Conversion for C and D Cell MagLites
I am a big fan of C and D cell MagLites with LED conversions. They provide a very bright, highly focused light and, with the reflector screwed off, provide useful emergency room lighting in "candle" mode. They will literally run for weeks so the batteries will likely die from old age before wearing out - so you need to change them every 3 or 4 years or they will corrode into the barrel so that you will have to take the light apart to drive them out.I have 2 of these LD modules - one on a 3 C cell light and one in a 4 C cell light (current model, not former one). Because LED modules have regulated voltage power supplies built in, both lights have the same output. I estimate the output to match its claim- they are brighter than some Nite Eyze conversions I have that are several years old now.If you use these in D cell MagLites you will not get increased brightness compared to use in a C cell MagLite but you will get greatly increased battery life.Yes you can match this output with smaller lights. I like and own many of the smaller LED lights that use 123 batteries (I carry a 1 cell one in my pocket at all times) but none of those can match the battery life of a C or D MagLite. And the size and weight of a MagLite allows it to be used as a club for emergency exit of a vehicle, etc.Install is easy- remove reflector assembly, remove the bulb (and socket on the new 4 cell), insert the LED module, and screw the retainer ring back on. Put reflector assembly back and set focusDelivery by post from UK takes up to a couple weeks. To get the most out of any MagLite I replace the plastics lens with a glass one- they are a bit more clear. In many years of doing that I have yet to break on- even in drops on concrete floors.

Very nice upgrade.
Brighter than the Terralux version. Very easy to install. I am currently using it in my old 4D Maglite and the throw and brightness are very nice. I would recommend going to flashlightlens.com and buying an Acrylite FF P-99 lens for your flashlight if you purchase this LED upgrade. It gives a nice diffusion effect which provides a nice functional amount of wash at closer distances while not costing you too much throw distance. Otherwise the light produced is mostly just a (very bright) hot spot and little else.

Very worthwhile upgrade!!
Like everyone else out there with older Maglites I've always kept an eye out for a decent LED upgrade, especially since I own and use some very modern, very bright flashlights. The technology has steadily improved over the years, and these days a truly decent flashlight can be had for relatively low cost.But-- I've used Maglites for, oh, decades, actually. The build quality, fit, finish, and ruggedness are essentially legendary. Certainly I've never had a failure attributable to anything other than my own errors (leaving old batteries installed, for instance... :-( ) And the heft of a large-battery Maglite still gives good reassurance if it needs to become a club--I have two 3ea D cell units; one I'd upgraded to a (wimpy) LED some years ago, and one I found during a cleanup a couple of weeks ago. It had a conventional bulb; of course it needed an upgrade...A little research and Amazon perusing and I found this UpLED product. The price is not exhorbitant, nor the estimated 2-4 week shipping; I just wanted a decent, solid upgrade. A 3W Cree product and a lot of highly-supportive reviews made this an easy selection. The LED arrived 1 week after the order was placed. Installation took about 1 minute. The results are exactly as expected. All that's left is to wait for nightfall and give it a decent subjective test, which I am confident will be excellent too. Based on observed output of other products with similar ratings I accept the LED has a 300 lumen output.A couple of points--make sure you select the correct LED for the number of batteries in your flashlight! Proper operating voltage is critical for electronic devices, and that includes LEDs. It won't be UpLED's fault if you order the wrong item. And if you have more than one Maglite to upgrade, save the expense of an extra shipping charge by ordering all the LEDs you need at the same time. My bad! I wanted to be sure this is what I wanted before I doubled the order... C'est la vi. A couple bucks for another order isn't bad, but still--that would've covered a hot dog & drink combo at Costco... ;-)

Quel rendement !
En remplacement d'une lampe à filament et avec des piles déjà usagées, quelle différence ! Lumière blanche bien plus lumineuse qui va permettre de terminer les piles en beauté. Une seule led COB mais ça change la Mag-Lite ! !

Mighty Atom !!!!
What can I say ? I usually wait till I get an e mail from Amazon asking for a review on an item I have purchased ... But in this case I'm not waiting for a promptMy 20 years plus 4 cell maglight had been pushed to the back of the shed outshone by the expensive to buy and to run surefire P9 ( batteries & bulb upgrade)which in turn was pushed down the pecking order by a couple of cheapo Cree sporting mini flashlights that were mega bright compared to the to afore mentioned flashlights, the maglight fell into my hands the other day whilst having a rummage and it still worked with the ancient batteries which I quickly checked hadn't leaked ....Mmmmm I wonder if anyone has done an upgrade of any sort on the maglight to give it a brighter beam ? A quick search on google showed there was and after reading a few reviews on this bulb I thought I have nothing to lose if it's not an improvement I'll send it back ....It arrived promptly well packaged in bubble wrap and in a proctective plastic box 10/10 there UpLedThe bulb itself was errrr this little thing is not going to impress ... Whatever is in the casing is magic !!!The normal bulb gave out a light I could only describe as a dying glow worm where as this is like a firefly on crack !Impressed is not the word Mega impressed plus is more like it even my wife who bought me the maglight many years ago was like wow !So the long and the short of it is if you have a maglight that is running the original bulb or any other bulb other than this ditch it and buy one of these you will not regret it it's Brilliant :0) pun intended
