Doshisha Electric fluffy Shaved Ice Machines Black 2021 model set with 3 Cups for Ice making

This is a great device to have at home if you don't live somewhere with kakigori or shave ice nearby. It's very easy to use, although a little manual since you have to adjust the shaver knob throughout the process to keep the ice as fluffy as possible. It won't be as fully as what you get in the store, but it's really good for homemade treats!The instructions are in Japanese but take a photo of them with Google Translate and it gives a near perfect translation that's easy to follow (I'll try to remember to post a screenshot later). Not sure why they give half cups since you need to use both half cups at the same time (possibly a space saver in the freezer?). I find that 1 full cup (or 2 half cups) make about 4-5 shave ice servings.

The machine works as intended and very easy setup. Some design flaws. Serving size seems awkward, like a decent 1.5 serving or 2 small servings, really impossible to push for the 3. The space below is also an awkward shape, need to use small bowls but then ice sometimes will fall outside of bowl.

氷はもちろん、冷凍した果物をすることができるのは楽しい。昔、縁日で眼の前で摩り下ろされてく氷を見ていたのを思い出した。問題点は２点、１点はいちごなどの果物をすりおろしたときたまに刃がひかかる点ひかかるたびに蓋を開け、ひかかった物の位置を変えないといけないのが少し面倒もう一点は、すりおろした際に飛沫が結構あたりに飛び散る点。氷なら溶けて水になってもすぐ蒸発するレベルなのだが、いちごなどの固形物やジュースなど糖分の入ったものだと周りが大変なことになるのでする前にタオルなど引いておく等が必要

(I'll update this as I use the unit more.)I've heard many great things about the 2019 generation of this ice shaving machine, so that this one claims to be improved and definitely doesn't waste physical space looked very promising. I'll be comparing it with the May 2022 KitchenAid shaved ice accessory when that arrives.But right out of the box, I noticed caught two obvious problems:1. The description says, "Comes with two types of ice cups: one M-size and two half-size sets (4 cups)." But that wasn't true. Instead, this came with only one type of ice cup: two M-size cups. Not the 5 cupes described (four half cups and once M-size).2. Everything is in Japanese (except for some odd English here and there, but not enough to be helpful). I thought _maybe_ the seller would provide an English version, like one reviewer mentioned, but I didn't receive that. I also thought maybe the official website would have an English PDF, but that doesn't exist. However, watching the silent official videos from the website, and using Google Translate on my phone, I was able to get a basic understanding of the operations and suggestions.And a small aside about the ice cups: the lids don't provide a liquid-proof seal. So expect some drips if you're not super careful, even with the lids on.These are my thoughts _before_ using the unit. If I run into any problems (especially with the 100-volt power on my American 110-volt power), I'll be sure to update this review.
