What size pump would be good for a 125 gallon tank wirh a 40 gallon sump?

The first thing you need to know is what your overflow pipe, overflow box, or pipe work is rated for. So example is lets say your overflow box is rated 600 gph. This means your pump can not exceed 600 gph ever otherwise you will literally drain your sump into your tank. So in short what ever your outlet or exit pipes or overflow box gph is rated for is the max your pump can run. These Jebao can be turned down but not past 30%. So take the pumps rating and see what its output at 40% would be. Just in case the controller wont allow lower then 40% but the pump will still be viable down the road for larger set ups. I cant tell you what pump to get unless we know exactly what your rated outlet from the tank is rated for.

I'm confused with all the different models. we have the dc, dcp, dct, and dcs. which ones are the latest models?

I believe the DCP sine wave pumps are the newest models. These have a digital controller with a number output for the number of watts being consumed by the pump during normal operation. The screen switches to show percent pump output when using the power selection arrows on the controller in increments of 5% from 30%-100%.
