What do I use to fill the capsules?  What sort of implament is used?

You have 3 options. Buy a capsule holder for the open caps. You pour the powder over them and push it into them then go back and put the tops on and pour the leftover powder back in the bag and pop out the caps. The second is get the very sm lab scoops and hold the cap and fill each one individually. This is a little harder as if the powder gets on your hands it will get slick and hard to hold. Cap them and go to the next one. The last way is to hold an open cap and push it through the powder in the container then pop on the cap top. Same issue- get slick and hard to hold.  There are the holders for different size caps on Amazon. Try that for probably best outcome and fast production.

Is this the right size for my 8.5lb Chihuahua?

It's the smallest capsule they make. I use this for my cat (though she's about 12 pounds). It also depends on the pills you're using. If your pup's pills are bigger than the capsule, you can cut them up into halves or quarters and fit them in. I have never used a size 4 (one size larger than the 5) so I'm not sure if that would work better for a Chihauhua. I've attached a video showing the size of this capsule beside a penny.

Will this hold 1/4 tsp?

No, we have to give our dog 1/8 tsp of phosphate binder. That particular powder took six capsules to get to 1/8. But the pills are really tiny and easy to hide in food.

Question 4

What size capsule is needed to insert a round tablet that is 5mm diameter? I need the interior diameter of the capsules.

Hello there,
The internal diameter of this capsule looks to be closer to 4 mm than 5mm.
I think a round tablet would fit if you flatten the capsule just a little but if you want to make absolutely certain that it's easy to insert a tablet you could go ahead and buy a size 4 as these size fives are the smallest size sold. Hope that helps.
