AcuRite 06045M Lightning Detector Sensor with Temperature and Humidity

I love my AccuRite weather station and needed a remote. Works like a dream and now I can receive accurate weather information from inside my home once again. Very pleased with this item. Just needed to be set to proper A or B setting and it was up and functioning.

This connected to my AcuRite weather station easily, and now tells me how many recent lightening strikes I've had and how far away the last was. NOTE: do not use this anywhere near a microwave oven, it can sense the start and stop of the oven as lightening strikes. And, I had one of these sensors before that I hung from a tree limb and it stopped working after a couple of months. So this one, I bought one of the AcuRite solar shields, so we will see if this one lasts longer. Note about the solar shield: it is priced WAY too high, more than the cost of this sensor, BUT it occasionally goes on sale for $10 to $15 less.

The system ordered had a faulty Lightning Detector. I contacted AcuRite support and worked with Heather. Excellent support received. A warranty replace is being sent at no charge. Excellent support and genuine care about their customers. Bob

I have to say that even though this does detect lightning and notifies you with an audible beep, it only beeps for ten lightning strikes. If no lightning is detected for two hours then the beeps will resume. It also has a red light that flashes too but it seems to sometimes flash when no lightning is around...like on a sunny day. I like it but i dont love it.

Satellite imagery is of course the gold standard for exteme local weather prediction. But if you don't have access to satellite data, or just want to augment your system, then this easily beats a "falling barometer". It can be used alone or with a compatible system. And that system doesn't necessarily have to be AcuRite. The OOK-modulated signals at 433MHz can be received and decoded by an SDR. And the device doesn't need to be outside. Mine is near a window and works great. When the unit starts beeping and flashing, I know that a front is nearby and likely to roll in soon. I usually get about 30 minutes of warning—enough time to tie down whatever needs tying down. I've never gotten a false alarm. If a storm is moving tangently to your location and just happens to pass within its 25-mile range, then you may indeed get an alarm with blue skies overhead. That's the whole point; you would never suspect a storm's nearby in that scenario. So why four stars instead of five? It goes through batteries quite a bit faster than your average weather sensor. Perhaps 3 to 6 months. Would be nice if they lasted a year. What batteries am I using? Panasonic Eneloops.

detects lightning, lots of colored flashing when lightning is detected. Works as advertised.

Just put in batteries, make sure it is set to the right channel and hang it up outdoors. It immediately started working perfectly.

Arrived early and was perfectly functional as soon as the batteries were installed. Could not ask for better service or a more perfect replacement for my "dead" outdoor sensor for this very handy outdoor weather system...

Was painless to set up on Acurite Hub. Do not put in full sun. Find a shady place or temp will be off buy a lot. Very senseative to electric things. A cell phone or wifi will set it off. Even a cordless drill driving a screw made a strike. After a found a place out out the sun outside and away from anything that would cause any interference it works very well. I knew going in a would have to find a place it would work. I am pleased with it.

Sirve para lo que sirve jajaja. Es decir si da las lecturas de humedad y temperatura correctamente. En cuento a los rayos creo que no es tan eficiente porque muestra alerta que no puede detectar frecuentemente. Nota. Yo compré 2 pensando que podia tener 2 de estos en diferentes canales pero no se puede. No cometan el mismo error que yo y con uno es suficiente
