A purposeful guide for cultivating gratitude as a way of life Recent dramatic advances in our understanding of gratitude have changed the question from "does gratitude work?" to "how do we get more of it?" This book explores evidence-based practices in a compelling and accessible way and provides a step-by-step guide to cultivating gratitude in their lives. Gratitude Works! also shows how religious, philosophical, and spiritual traditions validate the greatest insights of science about gratitude. New book from Robert Emmons the bestselling author of Thanks Filled with practical tips for fostering gratitude as a way of life Includes scientific research as well as religious and philosophical insights to show how gratitude can work in our lives From Robert Emmons, the bestselling author of Thanks , comes a resource for cultivating a life of gratitude practices. Review: I can say enough about this book! - I am grateful that I found this book. It change my way of viewing life. If you do all exercises it is amazing how it can change your heart. I am feeling more alive and thankful than ever. I see a blessing in each day! You just have to take whatever serves you in it and leave the stuff you don't agree with. But it may me take a look at my life and see were I was failing and to recognize I was been ungrateful. I wanted for my whole family to read it is so sad they don't have a Spanish version of it. I first bought "Living life as a Thank you" It was a good book but to repetitive and then I bought "Daily gratitude 365 days of reflection" that has no comparison, because is a quote book. By far this is the best book of gratitude I have read. Review: Emmons does it again - I ran into Robert Emmons on NPR several years ago. I like what I heard and got his book "Thanks". It gave me scientific studies to support what I had suspected about gratitude. He had great stories and practical ways of implementing gratitude. I am a family physician and I talk to my patients about gratitude and how it can improve their lives. The medical students that train with me are required to read it and report on it to me. "Gratitude Works: . . . ." is a continuation with more studies, more stories and more insights. The whole last chapter is about implementing gratitude in your life. These two books are so life-enhancing. You are cheating yourself if you don't make gratitude part of who you are.

Powerful positive emotions!
There is statement made early on thus book that really impacted me. Robert states that gratitude is not just a skill we develop but a character trait. It shouldn't be something we become good at on the surface, bringing us a polished look for others to see. It is something that should be deeply embedded within us. Something that stirs our soul and causes deep heart felt and powerful feelings of gratitude. I am so grateful for the time and energy that has been put into this book. It has really given me some great resources and ideas to on how to increase my understanding of gratitude and how to more fully integrate it into my life. What a wonderful blessing it is to know more about the science and benefits of gratitude. Thank you Robert!

Gratitude does work!
I really love this book! I've tried gratitude journaling before with no success. I've never understood why it worked for others and not me. This book explains how to do it, in a way that is understandable and easy to follow. The main part of the book looks at gratitude from different perspectives - sociological, psychological, etc. There are also reports of a number of trials run over time to determine how people feel after specific active practices of gratitude journaling compared to people who do other types of journaling. The people who actively practice gratitude all reported feeling happier by the end of the trials, so I decided to give it a go. The program consists of writing from 7 different perspective of gratitude, one per day for 7 days then cycling through the 7 perspectives again, then once more. I'm about half way through the program and I'm already feeling happier overall. I can identify the perspectives that work best for me, but I can see the value of all 7 of the perspectives. Journaling about what I am grateful for 10-15 minutes a day is definitely worth the time, since I feel so much better while doing it!

C'est bien de remercier
Quand on comprend l'attitude de l'autre on peut remercier. Soit parce qu'on est fixé soit qu'on reçoit quelque chose qu'on se rend compte que ce n'est pas garanti du tout que les autres vont nous le donner.

This book helps you excavate the joys you have buried inside you
Gratitude Works! and my goodness does it work. This book is a must read for all. Not only does Prof. Emmons weave a great story but also gives us the ABCs of Gratitude, but the most important part is what you as the reader put into it. I did the 21-day journaling, each and every day, and I could see my spirit uplifting, recognising what richness there is in my life that remains under the surface. With gratitude journaling, we excavate to discover the joys we have buried inside us, unseen and unaware. In the words of the poet Rumi, "There is a milk fountain inside you, don't walk around with an empty bucket...there is a basket of fresh bread on your head, and yet you go door to door asking for crumbs." Don't look for the joy outside of yourself. Do this 21-day program, and you will find the source of your joy inside yourself. With Gratitude.

Well-researched with plenty of practical exercises
A very good book that is well-researched and has plenty of concrete strategies to apply immediately. I rarely purchase a book, but to me this one was worth having to work through the exercises and reference in the future.
