It isn’t ideal but it would work ok. As long as you keep there from being slop in the connections (ie keeping downward pressure on the bit) it will be fine. Can you get a direct adapter for your application?

Can I use it on a socket wrench?

I don't see why not! If it is designed for impact wrench.
