Dependable product
The Burpee SuperSeed Windowsill Seed Starting Tray | 8 XL Cell exceeded my expectations and made starting seeds indoors incredibly easy. The extra-large cells provide plenty of room for seedlings to develop strong roots before transplanting, which really helps plants grow healthier and faster. I especially love the thoughtful design — it fits perfectly on a windowsill without taking up too much space, and the drainage system keeps the soil moist without becoming waterlogged. The tray feels sturdy and reusable, unlike cheaper seed starters that crack after one season. Germination rates noticeably improved after switching to this tray because the seedlings had better airflow and consistent moisture. It’s perfect for herbs, vegetables, and flowers alike. Whether you’re a beginner gardener or someone who starts seeds every season, this tray makes the process simple, clean, and efficient. Overall, this is a high-quality seed starting system that delivers excellent results. I would absolutely buy it again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to grow strong, healthy seedlings at home.

Works beautifully for starting a bunch of seeds!
I made the mistake of buying the paper based starting tray that was harder to control the moisture. I didn't know bottom soaking is better without washing the seeds out and avoid overwatering. The build quality is excellent! Sure, the bottom tray is on the thinner side so you probably don't want to drop this on the ground but otherwise, I used four 36-cell tray to start germinating annuals and perennials I can plant this year. After putting seeding starting mix (not regular potting soil), I filled the bottom tray about 1/4" or so with water and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes until the top looked damp. Then dumped the remaining water out so no mold grows under or have the cells in wet condition. Another issue I had with the paper trays if the top was too damp. We'll see how things germinate but because it's rigid but it's also easy to take out with the flexible silicone bottom, the seeds should start well and allow for the plant to grow rapidly.

My choice as an avid gardener
These are my go-to seed starting trays after having used many others over the years. I like the silicone pop-out feature, the manageable size, the sturdiness of the tray, and the overall “look” of the trays . Since I own several of each size (orange, green, turquoise), I like the versatility (2 orange 8-cell trays can fit in the black bottom of a 16 or 36.) I agree with others that a humidity dome would be nice, but I’d rather keep the price affordable. (A tip is to cut apart clear plastic bakery containers and use these as humidity domes. Another suggestion is to use a capillary mat inside the black tray. (Mine are from Gardeners' Supply, available on Amazon). I cut them to size and then make sure this mat is always moist. This allows plants to water from below. (I live in a hot, dry climate and find capillary mats essential to prevent drying out.) My latest tweak is to use bubble wrap (the kind with the mini-size bubbles), cut to size, to lay directly over the newly planted seeds. It works fantastic to hold in heat and moisture, yet allow light in, until the seeds come up. I've had flower seeds that are supposed to germinate in 21-30 days come up in 3-5 days--yes!-- using this method [Hydrofarm-brand heat mat, Burpee black tray, capillary mat, Burpee tray inserts, moistened quality seed starter mix, mini bubble wrap, plant-growing light close to the trays]). I switch to my no-cost bakery-tray covers to use as humidity domes once the seedlings are about to touch the bubble wrap. I find that the inserts last about two years under frequent use (I’m continually growing veggies or flowers as an all-year gardener, so I’m popping out seedlings more than the average gardener.) I now have several extra black trays which I continue to use to hold two 6-packs of transplants (Ex: as tomatoes and peppers get larger, I put them in reused bedding plant 6-pack trays and water from the bottom using my capillary mats). This allows me to use my Burpee trays for new seeds or for dividing seedlings. (I'm continually "rotating" my plants to accommodate the space needed.)

Small pods, good construction, use removal of seedlings.
I like those little seed starter but I think the pods should be a little bit bigger. It's made very well and the bottom parts of rubber so it makes it easy to pop the seedlings out

Perfect gift for a gardener who likes to keep things organized
I picked this up as a birthday gift for my wife, and it’s turned out to be one of her favorite garden gifts yet. The labeled grid (A-F across, 1-6 down) is what really sold her on it. She uses the whole layout to track exactly which seeds are in which cell and how each one is progressing. No more guessing what’s sprouting where. We’ve already seen good germination results, including some pumpkin seedlings she recently transplanted out of the tray once they got going. The cells hold soil well and seedlings are easy to pop out without disturbing the roots. If you’re buying for someone who likes to be methodical about their garden, this tray makes tracking growth simple and satisfying. Great gift, and she’s already planning to reuse it for the next round of seeds.

Solid, durable, reusuable seed tray
Great seed starting tray, I always struggled to get starts out of those thin plastic disposable trays you can pick up at a big box store, the flexible material at the bottom of the cells and the general shape of the cells make extraction really easy. They've held up through two rounds of starts now and seem like they'll be good for many more. Cleaning them after use probably took 10 minutes, it's not as simple as rinsing and calling it a day unfortunately but hey, less time than it takes to run down to the store and buy another disposable tray so I'm happy with it. In terms of how well starts actually do, I can't say there was a noticeable difference from disposable trays. Getting them out without damaging roots was a help, but for actually germinating seeds ehh, it's not really about the tray. Note that there is no included humidity dome, but you could probably drop any kind of plastic cover on there easy enough or just stay consistent with watering.

Mixed feelings.
The end tabs for lifting out the plants are easily broken. Otherwise, it seems to be doing it's job.

Great!
Don’t get me wrong. I know absolutely nothing about gardening. But this tray seemed like a great way to start one. And so far, it’s been going well. Granted I only just put some dirt and seeds in it. But the container itself is nice and sturdy. I think the silicone bottoms will help when it’s time to transfer them out to a bigger pot. Only time will tell. But so far, I like this tray!

I recomend Burpee make this tray with a dome cover to get the best results from this product.
Decent product. Had it have a dome cover, since it is for seedlings- would have been perfect. A bit pricey...

So cheap it arrived broken
I can't tell much more about it. It was broken when delivered and could never use it. I was offered a partial discount that covered half the amount I paid. Very flimsy and doubt it is really dishwasher safe.
