Can you use it with a very hot iron setting or will it melt?

My iron is set as hot as it will go and I haven't had any problems with melting.

What us is the temperature it can hold?

I use the highest heat setting with the greatest amount of steam possible with my Rowenta iron. The cloth holds up to that without a problem.

what material is the pressing pad made of?

Perhaps you're asking the wrong person. We bought and use, not the pad that's under the garment, but rather the mesh over the garment.
