Nest Thermostat E Programmable Smart Thermostat for Home, App Controlled via Wifi, Programmable, Compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, Frosted White Color (T4002ES)

I have had several of this exact thermostat over the years, but never had one have such major issues out of the box. This particular one could not be added to my account, connect with WIFI, or be remotely controlled. The battery was so dead out of the box, the thermostat would not turn on. I had to charge it for an hour before even installing it. Then I literally tried for 2 hours to get this to work. Fortunately for me, Amazon accepted it back as a return and I have ordered a replacement. I may update after the new one arrives. Update: The replacement works perfectly. Updating the rating to 5 stars.

Easy to install and use. I wasn't thrilled when I first installed these. I have 3 zones on separate floors. The corresponding software app makes it easy to program. I like the fact that I can monitor and adjust heating when I'm away from home especially in the winter.

Bought two of these thinking the first one was bad, but neither could ever see a single wireless network. Tried all the online help articles and even oddball solutions like using a dedicated AT&T hotspot and a hotspot from my iPhone. Tried reconfiguring my WiFi in a variety of ways, but the Nest could never see a single WiFi network. If I left it searching for WiFi, it would run the battery completely down and it wouldn't boot until I plugged it into a micro-USB charger for hours. From way too much online troubleshooting, sounds like a known defective wireless chip. Replaced it with a different smart thermostat and never had a problem with the competitor product.

I bought this because I have 5 zones and 3 of the zones are for heating only. The Nest E Thermostat works perfectly and I don’t have to worry about the “C” wire or RC wire. Easy to install and easy to set up with the Google app and the Nest app.

Great for a two wire system (heat only). I can’t speak to A/C but love the item. Love programming it and also being able to change the temp from the app on my way home from work so the house temp is perfect. Only took one star off because it took forever and two unplugs to get it to recognize my WiFi. It could just be my configuration but it was only 30 feet from the router. Once connected, updated and linked to my Google home system, it works like a charm.

Purchased these because it was advertised that it can run without a specialty wire. This is not true in any way. I was lucky to find out I actually had the wire so I was able to install it and it now works fine. I do not recommend getting it if you do not have the wire.

If you have a 2-wire system that's heat or cool only, this thermostat will work for you. It will work a system is a millivolt or 24V system. For a millivolt furnace like the Williams Top-Vent Gravity Wall Furnace, you'll need a 24V transformer to act a C wire to provide power to the thermostat. You can search for transformers that work with Nest on Amazon. One such example is the Viivria AC 24 Volt Transformer. Once you have your transformer, 1. Connect the one end of the transformer wire and the red R-wire for your heat/cool to the 'R' terminal. 2. Connect the other end of the transformer to the 'C' terminal. 3. Connect your other wire (likely white) to the 'W' terminal. 4. Put the thermostat back on its base. 4. Plug in the transformer. This configuration should keep your thermostat powered. I've had this configuration for 2 months and it works well.
