My NAS has a SATA Backplane and I used this to use an LSI controller that has SAS to expand the storage. Does great.

Obtained a SAS HDD and wanted to use the drive in my old PC
This Mini SAS (SFF-8807) to SATA (SFF8087) cables, used with a LSI00301 9207-8i 8Port Internal, Logic Controller Card to connect to a SAS HDD's SATA port. This is logic only wiring, you will still need provide power to the HDD.
