[Update] Our hawk kite has been flying for over a month now and we have not seen one single bird land on our deck. In fact, at one point, I took the kite down during a very high wind situation. In the five minutes it was not flying, three pigeons landed on our deck. I, immediately, put it back up. No more birds! I would say it’s been a smashing success. I am absolutely thrilled! By the way, it withstood the very heavy winds, too. [Original review] We have been dealing with birds around our pool for years. Tried several “solutions.” Most worked some of the time. This “hawk” kite is an absolute success. We haven’t seen birds landing since it was installed one week ago. Several birds attempted to land, only to do an immediate mid-air reversal and fly away. So pleased with this product. The string will wrap around the pole, but that is a minor inconvenience, in my opinion. And, no, it’s not just a kite on a fishing pole. Some impressive engineering went into this design. Well done!

This thing really does work. I had about 50-60 chickens and I had hawks circling and chickens going missing but after I put this up I stoped losing them. The pole did break in a storm but it’s so long I was still able to use it. If u use the rope it will get tangled in the wind I found it best to just clip it straight to the pole and it still worked.

These have been working great for short term - durability is questionable… but when it works it works just not in super sunny climates or high winds it gets shredded - I’ve protected many veggie gardens with them while they last -

I bought this to hopefully keep hawks away. It was easy to put together if you watched the video that is on Amazon. Actually, make the string shorter so it would not hit the hot wire on the top of the chicken run but it is so much fun to watch I am considering ordering another one to fly all the way out in another part of the yard.

Really liked the look and effectiveness of keeping geese off our pier. Only lasts one season as the wind tears it apart. It tends to get tangled a lot too.

I have placed this kite in all positions that it suggests.. the string seems awful heavy for the kite and will not stay flighted as the video in the advertisement is very misleading g as to how this is actually supposed to work . If I place the pole at an angle as suggested, the kite just sits on the ground .. not really very happy . I wanted this to scare squirrels out of my yard.. but if there isnt any wind, this product is completely useless as the squirrels get used to a stationary object .. I guess my expectations were unrealistic for this product.. very disappointed

Obviously this will only work when it’s windy out. We love the adorable ducks that visit our pool, we let them stay for a couple weeks thinking they would move on but no, they STAYED. Duck droppings just everywhere that is tough to clean up. Hopefully this will work. I tied it to a patio chair above the pool. It is quite pretty just dangling over the pool and I love watching it take flight, it’s kinda beautiful. It has banged against the roof of our house many times so it can definitely take a beating. Look out ducks, there’s a new boss in town lol. Update June 27, 2023 So the ducks came. One tried to fly off when the kite started flying around but because the other ducks stood their ground he came back to join them. The ducks are smart. They live nearby I can hear them during the day. So I think this kite will work well when ducks are flying overhead looking for a pool to rest in. The kite will deter them. But our ducks already know our pool, they come often and figured out the flying hawk is fake.

It’s a great deterrent for barn swallows. Does what it’s supposed to do. But I have a warning: I don’t know what the black pole is made of, but it leaves splinters in your hands!

I have had this for a while now. Purchased early June and put it up right away. Its late Dec now and its in good shape and flying around. We have has some heavy wind storms, gusts to 100 plus km/h. We were having problems with hawk going after our chickens and we have not had a loss since. It has also reduced the amount of small birds around the chicken pen. This is a good thing with avian flue getting transferred by wild birds.

I bought this to try to scare the ducks from my pool. It worked a treat! I had tried everything from owls to snakes and even resorted to ‘Duck Off’ treatment in the water and nothing worked. This kite was amazing! It mimics the eagle flying gentle over the pool.

The concept is sound and older than the product category: a large hawk or falcon silhouette moving unpredictably in the wind triggers the prey-response in smaller birds and they vacate the area. This one delivers on that basic premise. Starlings, sparrows, and pigeons that were previously treating the yard like a buffet have stayed away since it went up. Whether that's the kite specifically or just the novelty of something new overhead is a question that only time answers — birds are not stupid and habituation is real — but for now, it works. The build quality is where the enthusiasm stalls. The materials are visibly budget: thin ripstop that feels like it would lose an argument with a moderate branch snag, lightweight fibreglass or cheap plastic rods that flex more than they should, and connection hardware that inspires zero confidence in high-wind conditions. For the asking price, the gap between what you're paying and what you're holding is noticeable. This is a product that costs roughly what decent kite hardware should cost, but the margin is clearly not going into the materials. The pole and swivel mount that keeps the silhouette rotating and swooping is the functional core of the design, and that part seems adequate — the motion is convincing enough that even a skeptical eye registers it as birdlike from a distance. Longevity is the open question. A few weeks of sun, wind, and Canadian weather will determine whether this is a seasonal consumable or something with legitimate staying power. Right now it's performing its one job. Whether the hardware survives long enough to keep doing it is the real review, and that's still being written. Side note: I bought two of these and the owl seems to fly the best. Bottom line: Works as advertised. Build quality suggests it's a consumable, not an investment. Buy it expecting to replace it.
