Best introduction available for lay Christians
This book is the best introduction available about the issues of the sex trade and trafficking for the lay Christian. I really appreciated how Jewell emphasized the importance of prayer as a foundation for ministry (which was something missing from Batstone's book). Her discussion of the connection between the sex trade and trafficking was nuanced, and she showed that, for many women who are in prostitution "voluntarily," a heart-change or decision is necessary. This is what my own partners in ministry keep telling me--it is not enough to have jobs or training available--the women need to decide to leave, and this decision is made possible through relationships--and of course the power of Christ. If you only read one book on the sex trade and trafficking, read this one.

Your eyes will be o
This book was recommended by another organization as a way to become educated on Human Trafficking Nationally and Globally. I am in the process of developing outreach to the working girls in my community as plan to use this book as a must read for all the volunteers we have already and those to come. The Bible verse reference & thought provoking questions are exactly what I need to "correct" the thinking of well meaning Christian's who have ignored those stuck in the devil's bedroom!! Thank you Ms Herzog Jewell for writing this book.

Why you should read this
This book tells it like it really is. That is, it tells all about the sex trade industry. You will learn why most girls and boys, women and men, do what they do. They most often have been abused by someone they trusted. Then you will learn ways you can help to get them out of this industry. It is a subject we all need to learn about and figure out a way to help put an end to this horrible industry.

Very informative
For an issue that seems so new to most people, this book forces us to look at an issue that is so complex that we can't remain at a surface-level knowledge anymore. Not for younger readers do to the graphic nature of the topic it covers.

Writers like this one know how to get on that bandwagon ...
This book is an example of the bandwagon affect resulting from GW Bush's War on Trafficking declared in 2003. The religious craziness in America is a major part of that problem. I wonder how many people know the 2005 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act and several other US Fed Gov laws and agency processes control the biggest source of funding for both humanitarian work and research? It is censorship! The US Justice Dept requires those who receive funds to certify that they will "not promote, support, or advocate the legalization or practice of prostitution." Failure will result in summary rejection. People who have given away condoms for years were dropped from existing funding. This gives license to extreme exaggeration. Most academic research prior to 2005 shows that legalization of prostitution has very positive results especially at stopping abusive trafficking. The US War on Trafficking is really a globalized war on all prostitution. Writers like this one know how to get on that bandwagon when a topic is hot. It may be a well written book but it is full of deliberate exaggeration, not necessarily the author’s but the author's sources, to keep this issue in the news. Trafficking is a migration issue. When a single sex act earns $13 in one country and $250 across a border (true numbers) poor consenting sex workers stand in line to be smuggled, not trafficked. As world population approaches 7 billion as the UN predicts in 2020, people already outnumber jobs especially unskilled work. America’s ideological attacks on prostitution, even where it is legal, will put America on the wrong side of history.

Redemption stories
I love how every book I read on Human Trafficking is filled with new things for me to learn, and I've read dozens of them! This one gives you a perspective of girls who have been in and out of prostitution and now run their own safe houses and organizations to help girls/women out of prostitution, strippers who have been in the business and are now helping others out of it, men who viewed pornography and would go to prostitutes and how they now run Christian rehabs and help men understand what they are doing on many different levels, people who felt compelled to help others but didn't have much knowledge or didn't know how to relate to the women/girls that they were helping, transvestites and male prostitutes (a perspective I hadn't read about with a personal account) who were able to find God and people who were in the same business they got out of, and the list goes on and on. It was a good book.

Escape is Possible!
The global crisis of sex-trafficking and sexual slavery has reached pandemic proportions, and Dawn Jewell is not satisfied with the response of much of America on this issue - our country has been complacent and even complicit in the astronomical growth of this trade. Jewell has written a frank and direct book, which outlines not only the problem but also the solution - good people who are organized and committed and endeavoring to make a difference in the lives of these poor men and women, in the name of Christianity, to rescue those who cannot rescue themselves. This well written, engaging and timely book serves as a powerful introduction into the lives of many people who have been set free from this great evil and in many cases have returned to the battlefield to free others. Read this book and then be prepared to act, to join in, to be a part of the solution as an individual, church & nation. Thanks to Dawn Jewell, and even greater thanks to the ministries and people who are doing so much of this important work, we may begin to turn the tide against this awful and pernicious global calamity.

Real stories, real lives touched by God
Love this book because it is real. It is full of real stores, some stories are hard to understanding and hard to bare through when reading. But it is real, and God is real, and God shines in all of these people's lives. :)
