One Arranged Murder

This is the second mystery by Chetan Bhagat and having read both the books, I can safely say that he writes mysteries better than he writes romance. If I exempt “Two States“, all his other romances were just okay but his murders are way better! The writing style is simple, fluid, and easy for all types of readers to understand. Whether you are a seasoned reader or a novice, his narration will engross you nonetheless. The plot is expertly mapped out and executed and I am happy to say that I couldn’t guess the murderer’s identity until later in the story! Saurabh and Keshav’s friendship has taken a new turn in this book. The lovelorn Keshav is now a womanizer, and the dishevelled Saurabh is now prim and proper. With a new lady-love in his life, Saurabh has tidied himself up and Keshav has taken his place in covering-up-for-his-friend-at-work that usually he did when Keshav was out chasing women! The instant attraction and love between Prerna and Keshav, both foodies is so comically and yet, endearingly showcased. The tension, suspense, twists and turns, and ample number of suspects with motive to kill, all this is admirably handled by the author resulting in a story that kept my interest until the end. The only downside that I feel like pointing out is the body shaming that Chetan Bhagat indulged in through Keshav’s remarks on both Saurabh and Prerna. If he tried to show Keshav’s jealousy towards his friend who had finally found a soulmate through his rude remarks on the “well-rounded” couple then I seriously think the author should have tried something other than demeaning a person based on his weight. However, he also shows that while Keshav cracks jokes on his friend’s weight, he isn’t malicious in his intent and cares deeply about his partner to want him to be healthy. This somewhat redeemed Keshav in my eyes but still, I will say that I don’t condone body shaming. Apart from this, I think this is a well-written book devoid of grammatical errors and editing fallacies. Chetan Bhagat has improved his craft and it shows in his recent books. Gone are the stories that had been riddled with poor English and grammar errors, in their place are stories that use simple yet correct English and are fluid enough to attract all kinds of readers. Keshav and Saurabh’s friendship is so sweet and will have you remembering your best friend. Even though they are fighting, the care they have for one another never lessens and their strong bond is the highlight of this book. It will leave a lasting impression on your mind and emphasize the beauty of true friendship. All in all, One Arranged Murder by Chetan Bhagat is a murder mystery that will keep you engrossed and guessing until the end. With relatable characters and a realistic world, this book can be read by anyone. 5 out of 5 stars to it from me and Njkinny recommends it to all mystery lovers. This is his best work till date and I look forward to reading more mysteries featuring Keshav and Saurabh in the future. ‘One Arranged Murder’ has a new story, but primarily with the same characters from Chetan Bhagat’s book ‘The Girl in Room 105’. The story revolves around Keshav and Saurabh, who are working in an IT company. They have also opened a detective agency after solving their first case, though the reality is that they don’t get any big cases to solve as such. Prerna is Saurabh’s new love interest, with whom he’s planning to marry; however, she dies on the auspicious day of Karwa Chauth, which she has kept for Saurabh, her husband-to-be. Keshav gets a case to solve, whereas Saurabh has his emotions attached to the unexpected death of his fiancée. They both, like in the past, try to find the murderer by fair means or foul and help the police as well. Even though the storyline is quite simple, the book has kept me glued. The author has successfully created an engaging environment. The writing style is simple. One can easily finish this book in one or two sittings. I liked the characterization in this book more than the author’s previous thriller book. The characters are relevant to the story and aren’t flat characters. However, Keshav’s character, as a protagonist, is completely reduced in this part of the book. A weak protagonist to sympathize with, indeed, is the low point of this book. The title is perfect for the story. I loved the cover of this book a lot. Also, Anjali’s love angle with Keshav in this book is written in such a hurry that it feels like those chapters are forcefully put in the book. The last few chapters slow down the pace of the book as well as they disconnect a bit with the story. The narrative style is highly engrossing. Overall, Chetan Bhagat’s One Arranged Murder is a page-turner. A good thriller. Recommended.

Plot: Keshav and Saurabh are now Ex-Best Friends. Prerana is the new love interest of Saurabh's life. An arranged marriage which turns into semi-Loved one as the spark blooms over Food, Culture and Intuition. On Karva Chauth, Saurabh goes to meet Prerana on the rooftop of her building. And then ... [ No spoilers] First Impression: Coming after The Girl In Room 105, This book heads along on its way with the same fervour and intensity of impressions from the previous one. Chetan Sir has done remarkable jobs in distinguishing each character and making sure readers acknowledge each and every character as important. The English used in Layman terms and easily decipherable without much headbutting over a certain word or sentence. After Finishing The Book: A few notches above The Girl In room 105, this book truly beats its predecessor with a much better storyline and characters and tightening the whole plot to a certain backdrop. The story is able to hook you up and move on at a fast pace. Being a coffee table read, this book can certainly hardwire some of the theories and ideas in your mind regarding the issues of India's dynasty and how past strikes the Present if left without any care. It will make you stand up and look around you and your close ones and how even in a peaceful time, calamities keep striking the core of the human characters. Best Things About This Book : 1. Simple English use for a much wider readership. 2. Story moves at a gripping pace. 3. Characters are much better introduced and relevant to the plot than The Girl in room 105. 4. Throws you off the hook in its end of second Act but then builds up a whole different and appealing narrative in the Third act which makes you laugh at yourself and how it was hidden in plain sight. DownTurns of the book: 1. This book not being a sequel, Chetan Sir has reduced Keshav to a very diluted protagonist. A little bit of more revelation from Keshav's side as history repeating itself would have really made Keshav hit a better note. 2. Saurabh's character arc of his loving side for Prerana gets lost towards the ending and his sudden fits of rage and crying make us question where is it developing from. 3. Chetan sir not discussing the issues of our country in his own layman style. In Revolution 2020, how Sir had made us think about our country, This book doesn't really make us register the contemporary situation of our country. The issues of GDP and farmers are discussed for a very short time which I would happily read much more about as Chetan sir is simple and doesn't complicate stuff. I hope his next book ticks mark this option for sure. Conclusion: The book is a great successor to The Girl in room 105. Hits all the right chords with its storytelling and character development. Little tweaks in the character arcs of our Protagonists would have been appreciated. Overall, The Mystery, Murder and how the human brain functions on its own logic and reasons made this a compelling book to read. If you pick this up, you will surely fall in love! (Oh wait!, I gave a spoiler there! Sorry!)

The book quality is good and paper is white and readable. This was the first book I bought and read so it was quite enjoyable. I didn't expect I would be able to finish this quickly. Story was interesting, I didn't get bored a single moment. It's a mix of humour (body shaming) and detective genre. Chetan Bhagat could have minimised the body shaming though.. it's literally in half of the chapters. Otherwise plot is good.

So the book starts where 2 best friends are not talking to each other. The story goes when murder took place in a posh family, to the involvement of Keshav and Shaurab. And the revelations which the story keeps to unfold was quite good. The story was full of drama, sometimes suspense, intimacy of course and moderate to good ending. I think the plots were not enough to justify the others as murders (can understand after reading the story). Sometimes the plots were little stagnant, containing less detective suspense. Overall the story was good to fetch 6.5 out of 10. P.S. though there was fat shaming in some areas in the story. But calling a fat as a fat is not wrong though. Calling a skinny as skinny is not wrong too.
