wasn't epecting that!!!
was looking for a new cd player, after my last one (of 20yrs) finally gave up on me. didn't have a lot of money and i'm mainly a vinyl listener now - but also have all my cd's on a harddrive so random play these through a streamer. however recently i wanted to just stick a cd on and listen.i looked at a lot of options and whilst not trusting a lot of the ~£100 cd players on amazon was erring to a denon/marantz/cambridge audio. but at this stage didn't have the money to justify getting these. i kept going back to the Madison - with the only downside (against others)was it didn't have a digital output (to connect to a seperate DAC).in the end i decided to go for it - it looks lush and my amp doesn't have digital inputs anyway - and didn't want to spend more getting a DAC too.arrived next day. unpacked and connected to my hifi - and I never expected this to be so good out of the box. the soundstage was great - and there's fantastic seperation. it's also quite a warm presentation - which i like. it's very neutral, so doesn't add anything of take anything away - so a really good recorded CD will sound awesome. a poor recorded CD does show their bad side. however - like vinyl - i prefer this - as i'm not being presented with somethihg false.i eventually hooked it up to a pair of interconnects and (as the power cable is built in) i added an IEC adapter so i could use and upgraded power cable (both of which cost more that the CD player itself.) this lifted its performance even greater.so pleased i went for this. i'm now enjoying listening to CD's again.will be interesting to see how it lasts over time, but for now i'm 100% happy

Tidy compact CD player
I've been looking for compact sized cd player and this fits the bill perfectly, connection is analogue cables not optical or coaxial, so connects via the red and white inputs on your amplifier. The open and close mechanism is quick but doesn't open fully the reveal the whole cd tray, the colour is silver on the top and black on the sides, the display is bright orange and the supplied remote is funtional. There's no shuffle mode but I can't fault the sound for the price.Nothing on the market comes close to this for a hifi cd player measuring just 27cm wide.

Dual Fuel Hi Fi
It is over the years one of the best cd players I have had specially as it is also an FM radio, I was so pleased to see it arrived a day early which I thank the supplier for, it matches the amplifier which is valve and it sounds just as good as my records, analogue is so easy on the ears now I have gone backwards to a warmer sound the equipment is the best for the price, give it a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Good quality and sound
Perfect size, looks good and the sound is excellent. We didn't expect to be able to get just what we wanted for the price, so very pleased and would recommend.

Good sound marred by gapless playback issues
Looks good and sounds great for the money. I have it playing through 2x Sonos Play5s (gen1) and it’s a very rich sound. Playing Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert is the full on immersive experience and better than I was expecting for £100.However, it does that cheap, modern CD player thing of inserting a gap between every track—even on gapless / live albums. Very annoying.

Worth the money
Excellent for the price.CD drawer a little flimsy so have to be careful when replacing the cds.

Sound quality is not inspiring
My 20 year old Teac CD player stopped working recently, so on the strength of the reviews on Amazon I bought the Madison CD/FM unit as a mere stop gap until I could afford something more expensive. Alas, when hooked to my World Audio valve pre-amp & power-amp it struggled for depth in the low mid to bass & was somewhat harsh on the high notes on vocals. Clearly, I was misled by the good things said on here. I plugged the audio outputs of my Samsung blueray player in the same amps& it performed better at playing CDs than the Madison. The Madison's FM turner was very acceptable, able to pick up most stations with the supplied basic FM aerial. Having said all that, for under £100 it would be quite at home in a budget system where less would be demanded of if. Perhaps my expectations were too high.
