Art-Based Group Therapy: Theory and Practice
D**.
A dynamic, unique, depth approach to art therapy in groups
Bruce Moon's book is a one-of-a-kind as far as I can tell! His approach is to work deeply with clients and to do art with themas well. I think this approach requires a great deal of experience in doing clinical work and a great deal of artistic accomplishment. For me, this approach set standards for practice that are high but certainly the kind of professional/creative standards that thefield of art therapy could benefit from. Like Edith Kramer, Moon will join in the making of art in a group; but also like psychodynamicand psychoanalytic clinicians, he works well with metaphor in art and language. The combination is powerful. He offers excellentclinical examples of the application of his process and his thoughtful and well written descriptions enable the interested clinicianto try out some of his working techniques. Reading this book and being new to doing art therapy, after a long career in talk therapy, has really given me the incentive to move forward in new territory.

Good for Stories, Short on Directly Applicable Information
Moon is what he is. He has a very anecdotal style, but I'm always feeling left wanting more after I read his books. It's more like reading war stories than anything of highly practical and applicable merit. I feel like it's a joke when my program requires his books as "textbooks." I'm not trying to bash him here, but I would need more directly applicable info to give him that last star. That said, his work fills a role that most textbooks do not, so I will give him that.

Love Moon's Books
The font is big and the chapters are short making this book a quick read. I bought it as a text for a class and its actually one that I read. So often chapters are long and small font making it a daunting task. This book is not like that but it doesn have good valuable information so it is well worth it.

Excellent resource for art therapy groups
Excellent resource for art therapy groups. I have lots of experience in facilitating groups but not art-based groups so this is helpful.

The author clearly differentiates art-based group therapy from traditional group therapy.
Great book to understand working with groups using the arts, well explained methods and the importance of relating through art making. Author provides great examples and has a lot of experience in the field of art-based group therapy. I am a student doing a bachelor degree in Arts Psychotherapy and have found this book highly useful and reliable.
