No word in the description but I read somewhere else that it can accept more than two filters, like four. Is this true? I mean the 3.25 gallon unit.

It does have holes for up to 4 filters. It also comes with two plugs if you don't have the extra filters. The more filters you put in the less water capacity it will hold.
