My father had several dozen copper rivets that inherited, and over the years I found one use for them after another, from replacing a hook on a dog leash to making a leather swing for a baby basket. But, alas, eventually they disappeared, and I am delighted to find that Tandy still produces them. I was also very pleased with Tandy's service. They got me the right rivets in their original envelope in a timely manner. (Note that you can use a ball peen hammer and anvil to close the soft copper rivet over the burr -- I've never used or needed a rivet tool.)

The copper color of the metal is a natural for binding leather so it looks good. You will want to create the hole for the rivet before applying it as a fastener. It is NOT self puncturing. The copper is a soft metal but a strong metal that makes this rivet so effective because of it's thickness. Do also purchase or have a rivet punch for flatten the spoke into a clinched head on the backside of the material you are binding together.

Before purchasing this product I would advise watching Tandy Leather's instructional video on YouTube regarding how to set these rivets. Although in this video a simple claw hammer is used to peen the rivet, I believe that purchasing a ball peen hammer will be well worth the cost. These rivets are very strong and appear capable of holding a large amount of weight.

One of the things I noticed on other reviews was no one listed the size of the flat round section on the rivet and the burr. So here are the dimensions The round end attached to the rivet is 7/16 of an inch or just a bit under 1/2 inch in diameter. The burr (washer looking thing) is only a hair smaller. the overall length of the piece is 1 inch. These dimensions only apply to the #9 rivets. I have not used any others. I Have used these rivets numerous times and they work great. Hope this helps.

Good quality, the posts don't bend and the burrs don't break when setting them. All pretty consistent quality, no ragged, sharp, or rough edges. I'll keep buying these from Tandy - seems like much better quality control than the cheaper sellers.

Yes these rivets are going to be way stronger than the cap rivets I have due to peening them over they haven't and shouldn't come apart. I used these on the straps of a 70 year old m-30 swedish pack to be able to handle the weight load it looks like the same kind of rivets used 70 years ago.

Copper Rivets are wonderful connectors in the hands of a crafter. Copper the element when formed into a stud, makes as stout of a stud today as it did 2000 years ago.

These rivets are everything the seller says they are. They work well and look good after being installed. The reason I did not give them five stars is that they are grossly overpriced for what they are.
