Perfect add-on for Raspberry Pi 4 storage
I’ve bought several Argon expansion boards for my Raspberry Pi 4, and this one works just as expected. The build quality is solid, installation is straightforward, and it adds real flexibility with M.2 NVME support. I’m very happy with the purchase and will continue to choose Argon products.

Just works!
Worked perfectly for the project I had in mind for a while. Finally up and running! Don't think twice about running your PiOS on an NVME. If I can do it, you'll have no problem.

NVME boot works. Fast operating system.
It turns out all my issues were resolved by changing the window manager to X11 (raspi-config). Wayland window manager causes problems with some apps and under load, will make the system hang and become unresponsive. As of now, the RPi4 has not crashed since switching to X11. The Raspberry Pi 4 can now boot from NVME, without an SD card. The speed of the operating system is at least 2x faster. Boot time is nearly instant compared to SD card; SSH is ready in about 15 seconds. For the Raspberry Pi 4, I'm using the official 27w, 5 amp adapter, 3 amps is probably not enough to get stable performance; with a low amperage adapter I experienced crashing while accessories were plugged-in to USB. With 5 amps, everything seems to run fine.

Great Idea... But.....
So I got this today. I was so excited, however when I opened the box and pulled out the product I got this (See the picture). It looks like someone may have done the old switcheroo. I will give an update when the replacement comes in. People are the worst sometimes. Update!! Got my replacement the next day. Works great, fast, and really was easy to install. After getting my replacement I am even more convinced that I got a returned item the first time. That is definitely a quality control issue. But, either way its corrected now and works as advertised.

Gave me NVME for my rPi 4
I coupled this with the Argon one case. Note that I don't think that the NVME gives you the performance you'd see say in a normal computer. I happen to have a spare NVME drive laying around so that is why I went this route over the M.2 version (which is a tad cheaper). That said, I hear the m.2 version might be hard finding a drive compatible. Not because of Argon or it's compatibilities, but because the slot allows you to add drives that are not compatible. You can search for Jeff Geerling's review on this to see what I mean. I personally use this to house my Home Assistant install. I didn't want the volatility of sd card storage, and thought at first this would at least let me put the "data" portion of my install on SSD. I then found out that rPi 4s can natively boot off of usb (which is how this product connect to the pi). Its out of the scope of this review to set up you pi for usb boot, but it's not hard and can be done using the raspberry pi image flasher tool. There are a few tutorials out there for this. Another thing to note is that this does support TRIM, which you will want to turn on, but it's not on by default. This was a bit more difficult for me to set up because Home Assistant OS is stripped down and it was a bear to get all the tools needed to do it. If you aren't using Home Assistant, or even if you are (though it won't be as helpful), Jeff Geerling does have a tutorial on his site about how to setup TRIM. Note that you may need to upgrade the firmware of this device (I did). I can't remember where I found the instructions, but a quick google search should lead you to the right place. The case does add alike a big heatsink, which is nice and the fan is 'ok'. I wish it was a standard size so I could replace it with a noctua one not that I couldn't, but it's not an exact fit). That said it sits in a rack and while the case is warm, that just means it's doing it's job (IMO). I've added a picture of it sitting in my rack in my office. Yes its' a mess. Yes I need to clean it........mabye I'll get to that tomorrow (yet tomorrow never comes...LOL)

Awesome!
I popped a 2TB SSD into this for my Raspberry Pi Umbrel server. It took a few days to download the whole blockchain but it's working great! Lots of room left for future and other uses. Nextcloud will be added to hold my photos. Coming from Commodor PET 2000 to this has been lots of fun. Who knew such change could happen so fast. But then, grandma saw horse carriages to moon landings. I've seen Eniac to iPhone. Who knew a warehouse of vacuum tubes could fit in a shirt pocket? This drive adapter turns a 'toy' computer into a real workhorse at very little relative expense. What a world!

I bought this Argon ONE NVME Expansion Board because I realized too late that I had purchased an NVMe SSD instead of a SATA one. The board works flawlessly and fits perfectly in place of the original SATA expansion board. It’s a bit pricey for such a small upgrade, but that’s on me. The build quality is excellent—well-machined and solid. Everything feels high-quality and precisely made. Installation was straightforward, and the board functions exactly as expected. A reliable upgrade if you need NVMe support for the Argon ONE V2 case.

Says NVME but only works with older SATA
