Decent dies, poor wrench - updated
The dies and taps themselves seem pretty good, but the wrenches don't seem to stand up to real work. If all you use this for is cleaning up existing threads it will probably be fine, but after cutting new threads onto some bar stock my die wrench is twisted so the dies barely fit in anymore, the set screw sheared off 3 times, and the hole for the set screw is mangled. Maybe it fares better cutting threads in copper or aluminum, but it's not really great for steel. Still worth the price just for the taps and dies, but I'd recommend picking up some solid wrenches for serious work. This review has been updated to reflect the great customer service from Efficere Tools, who contacted me to let me know they refunded the purchase price of the tap & die set. So while I can't give the set a full 5 stars for the reasons listed above, they definitely earned 4 for the good customer service. I'd be happy to buy from them again. And as I said above, the dies themselves were fine and a great deal, just plan to spend a little extra on a sturdy wrench to use them on steel.

Taps ok, but most dies are not even close to accurate
Yet another time I was influenced by all the positive reviews and left disappointed. I’m pretty certain there’s a glitch in the review matrix here. The cases are decent, the taps I’ve used so far have all been good but I’ve been going very easy on them as I don’t want them to snap. Every single die I have used cut decent but the size was way off, to the point that they are worthless. Not one of the standard dies will even chase brand new bolts correctly so you can’t even just clean threads with them. The small compression tap holder is decent, the larger adjustable tap holder works but comes loose very easily and must be tightened repeatedly while cutting a thread. The die holder works but is very sloppy as the dies fit loosely.

Good Product Good Price
Nothing wrong with these basic sets. These don't have frills, and they don't come with instructions, but you have YouTube, or some old mechanic you can ask.I needed to tap treads in some steel, and in brass. So, I did the male and female from dissimilar metals. The process was about as good as you can expect for a basic set like this, and the threads mated perfectly. Not sure how they would hold up if I was doing this all day every day, but that's not what this product is intended for. For what I wanted it was great.A bonus is the incredibly fast delivery from Amazon. Even my local hardware store could not get it this fast.

Not bad for the cost. Tap handel is a joke.
Needed to make 10 taps in some aluminum t-slot bars. Given the choices on Amazon, I could either buy this set or just the tap I needed and a seperate handle for a cost within about $5 difference.I decided to go with this set even with the reviews complaining about the handle. The good news; got all of the taps done and the tap I used didn't break, and still feels pretty sharp (used in aluminum).Bad news; the handle will not stay tightened against the tap. I had to retighten it over and over again.Bottom line, for light duty this set is ok, but you should plan on buying s separate tap handle.Did not used the dyes.
