MarmiteYeast Extract (500g) - Pack of 2

An acquired taste, but seems to be doing the job healthwise. 500g twin-pack a good deal!
This is an acquired taste for Americans, but once you get used to it, it's quite flavorful and adds some variety to my breakfast toast. I first tried Vegemite in Australia back in the '80s, it didn't appeal to me, and didn't try it again for 25 years. After a few cholesterol tests where my "good" (HDL) cholesterol was well below the desirable range, and already being in the habit of getting regular exercise and eating a lot of vegetables (the first prescription for increasing your HDL), I began researching food sources of niacin (which supports HDL levels) in hopes of not eventually needing to take prescription niacin medication. The Vegemite/Marmite spreads are among the best supplemental sources of niacin I could regularly fit into my diet (While I have not done a side by side taste tests of Vegemite and Marmite, I cannot tell much difference between them and am satisfied to buy whichever one I can get at the best price). The addition of Marmite to my diet on an almost daily basis seems to have assisted in pushing my latest HDL number comfortably into the desirable 40-59 range, compared to the 20-40 range in tests the previous couple of years (your mileage may vary...).I've just bought my third 2x500g pack form Amazon, and it is the best price I have found taking into account the Prime free shipping. Certainly better than the small Vegemite jars I can buy locally ($7 for 125g). I have bought similar large packages of Vegemite from another online retailer, but their total cost is higher due to shipping, and their product arrives with a "best by" date only a month or so into the future, for a package that will last me 2-3 months.

It is delicious
Whoever decided, at whatever time in history, that a brewers yeast extract will make a sandwich spread that is simply delicious savory, should have a statue made. This stuff, on a sandwich with melted cheese over is simply to die for. And you can also stir some into a soup or a stew and it WILL improve the taste. Finally, it is healthy with lots of iron, (I think!)

Broken unreturnable item
I love Marmite and have ordered it many times but this time the delivery time was quite long and one of the glass jars arrived broken with marmite all over. As this is classified as non-returnable I need to know how to proceed as this is costly and I will not order again without a fair solution. With one I will update my review.

This is Marmite.
If you're here looking for Marmite, well, you probably already know what Marmite is. Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to google "Marmite" just for giggles on the off chance that the word means something. No, you came here looking for Marmite. I bought some of this - and guess what? It's Marmite. If you love Marmite you will love this. If you don't care for Marmite, well, maybe go buy a Snickers or something.

Savory Goodness
I tried this product a few months ago and was hooked. I originally bought the tiny bottle. I read about so many amazing health benefits of marmite that I had to try it. The flavor is strong and it is pretty salty. I tried it the first time on cauliflower. I heated the tiny bottle for 20 seconds in the microwave. Be careful it gets hot VERY quickly. I cut the cauliflower into flowerettes, tossed them in a bowl with a little olive oil and some basic roasted veggie seasoning finishing with a generous drizzle of the marmite. Be sure to toss well to ensure a little of the marmite gets to each of the pieces. Then I roasted it in the oven. A little goes a long way. It was an instant hit. Since then I've used it in soups, stews, on other roasted vegetables, and on toast. Be sure to use a little butter with it for toadt or it won't taste very good. The fat compliments it well. Now I buy the big jars so I can try it in other ways. I love the deep savory salty taste. The are lots of recipes online that you can try.
