- bb os 10 is the best software available - i used bb10 on an Z10 ...
to start my review i have to state this: - bb os 10 is the best software available - i used bb10 on an Z10 (what a freeking great phone for the price) - i only change to android, well, because there is no more support for external apps. android is open, customisable, etc etc but come on!!! for me, as a person, i like/praise the freedoom of choice but.. isn't it a bit stupid to have to download a app for everithing??? as an example, i want to set a music as a ringtone i have to download a app specifically for that.... what?!??! before it was "built in option" Now, about the DTEK60 android come packed with the best apps: the hub, the calendar just this is worth to go BB (yes u can have it on other phones with a monthly fee but , for me, coming pre installed on the phone is reason enough) for those who used it on bb10 is not the same but comes close this phone is making it a very pleasant android experience of course, there is no real multitasking as on BB10, (even on a 4gb phone compared to what it was on a 2gb phone, like Z10)... but that is an android question, not BB or DTEK about hardware.. humm, smooth glass everywhere(i carry mine unprotected....i can't have that smoothness and not being able touch it !!l but be carefull, it slides everywhere, i had to glue to it some rubber anti sliding "thingies" like those for chairs not to slip. very light weighted the location of bottons, well is true you'll take a lot of unwanted print screens! the camera protruding, untill now, is not a real issue. well, you can read the specs\reviews anywhere when it come to smartphones i never used a flagship before so i cannot really compare. but, for what i "studied" and read (and i did a lot, before deciding on buynig it, cos my heart was on BB but i wanted to be a choice from the head), this is the best quality/price ratio out there. better ratio maybe the One Plus.... but i trust BB, and i love the BB apps

The best phone i've ever owned and used.
This really is an excellent phone, Originally had a Nexus 6P which was decent but overly large and heavy, then due to an accident, went to a Nexus 5X and while quite a nice size, the battery was seriously lacking. This phone is firstly gorgeous, the AMOLED screen is stunning and the battery life is lasting me at least a day and a half. Seems to also charge faster than the Nexus 5X, probably down to using Quickcharge 3.0 instead of 2.0. The software on the phone is the best iteration of Android i have used except for pure stock. Its very close to stock and you can easily make it like that. This phone is also one of the most secure, so i would recommend it for that reason alone.

Top class product
This has the promise of being one of the best Android phones I have ever used, it has a thoroughly good spec and performance wise it is up there among the 2017 market leaders. Very attractive design, the advertised colour "Earth Silver" turns out to be a very dark grey and in my opinion the Blackberry overlays on top of Android V6 add significantly to the smartphone's usability. For the price, (on Amazon April 2017) this phone is excellent value for money - why pay more than ยฃ200 more for one of the latest 2017 flagship products or almost double the price for an iPhone 7? I highly recommend a hands on inspection of this product before spending your hard earned cash on a new smartphone! You will not be disappointed!

Don't buy this phone - unless you enjoy atrocious power management problems.
The phone itself is fine - much of a muchness with other phones really. But, after about a year the problems reported by other reviewers started. Battery level draining incredibly quickly, until eventually (18 months after purchase) it became very unstable. Power level would go from (say) 100% to 0% in a second, and then back up to 100%, sometimes alternating between the two figures for several seconds. Then it started to immediately shut itself down due to perceiving that the battery had emptied, despite it previously showing as 100%. It would also shut down randomly - either while using it, or when sat quietly on the side (including on charge). Ultimately, it got to a point that it even started to shut down during the boot sequence as it thought it had ran out of power - despite being plugged in. The root cause seems to be a power management issue rather than the battery (reported as healthy by the diagnostics). So this suggests it is a more fundamental issue with the device itself rather than a dodgy battery. In short, a decent phone in principle, but seriously let down by the incredibly shoddy build quality. Best avoided.

Good looking device, good specifications
As a long-term BlackBerry user, I thought I'd try the DTEK60 having spent a year or so using a non-BlackBerry device. The phone itself looks well-made and stylish. The specs are good on paper. All seemed well for the first few weeks of use. But then, a fault crept in where the device would be entirely unresponsive to touch commands. This would seemingly happen randomly, although I did notice it seems more prominent near the edges of the device. I ordered a replacement, but after a month or so this too began to exhibit the same problem. I'm unsure as to whether the problem is hardware-related, or down to very poor OS optimisation. I have noticed a number of complaints over an unresponsive device on the CrackBerry forums. However, even post-factory reset, I was quickly experiencing the same thing. It was more than 'Android lag', in that the device would literally do nothing at all, meaning I was often missing phone calls because I was unable to answer. Perhaps I was just unlucky, or perhaps I had two from a faulty batch, or perhaps there's an inherent issue on a hardware or OS level. But I have since arranged a refund.

Dubious in many ways
Not as secure as claimed, since at the first opportunity it transferred my list of contacts details to Google. I'd have thought that "not giving away information without explicit permission" would be a fairly basic security feature. Apparently not in Blackberry world. The touch screen was found to be very temperature sensitive; the right-hand-side of the screen became less responsive as the temperature fell and was more or less unusable below about 12 degrees C. The phone had power issues from the start. The primary symptom was that with the battery indicator at, say, 80%, the phone would suddenly switch-off when taking a photograph (without flash), or when trying to connect a call. Another symptom was that sometimes, when re-powering the phone after aforementioned uninvited power-off, the battery indicator would drop at about 15% per minute, again with no obvious explanation. Some weeks later, whenever the phone attempted to restart after one of these sudden power-off events, it would get stuck in a perpetual reset cycle with no explanation of why it was unhappy; the screen would come on and the buzzer would buzz and then a few seconds later it would reset and repeat. If one trapped the restart cycles at the "bootloader menu" (by holding the down volume button as the phone switched-on / reset) then the phone could be held at the bootloader menu for hours, with the screen backlight on -- so not actually particularly short of power at all. Initially I had thought that perhaps the battery needed a few discharge and re-charge cycles to work out what was full and what was empty. Later I wondered if there was a firmware bug because the power-off didn't occur consistently, and seemed only tangentially related to power-use. However the symptoms did occur more frequently with age. Software updates occurred daily. Whilst this is touted as a good thing I can't help but think that if software has to be updated that frequently then it is, somehow, fundamentally broken in design or implementation. Icons and icon labels changed automatically, which was annoying. This was my first Blackberry phone, and it hasn't been a great experience. The issues with the touch screen are inexcusable. The power issues inexplicable. The perpetual restarts without explanation of what the problem was are inexcusable. The automatic transfer of contact details to Google defeats the "privacy" claim. The faff with icons and labels changing uninvited was, at best, rude. Overall then, the performance I have experienced would have been unimpressive and unacceptable even on a cheap phone. For a "premium" device it is, frankly, pathetic and I cannot sincerely recommend this phone.

Best Blackberry Yet!!
Best Blackberry Yet!! Having a Blackberry and iPhone (work) for many years I will go to the Blackberry every time. Had many models through from the early days but this is the best yet. Great screen, robust although you do need a thin matt case as the glass back is quite slippy. Has the advantage of features taken from the brilliant BB OS (hub etc) yet the flexibility of running Android apps. Very stable, no battery issues at all and lasts all day even with heavy screen usage.Love it.

Best BlackBerry Ever
This is one awesome phone. The worst thing I can say about it is that since it's all glass, you NEED some kind of skin around it; it's the slipperiest phone ever, I think. I'm a big BB fan, and while the Passport is still my all-time favorite phone, I have to say that the DTEK 60 is simply an amazing piece of technology. It's fast - blazing fast. Apps open without any issue, from graphics-intense games to HD videos. The screen is amazing and smudge-free! The cameras are by far the best ever on any BB and compare favorably to any camera on any Samsung or iPhone. I don't like any virtual keyboard, but the VKB on this (as well on the PRIV and DTEX 50) is really nice and intuitive. And the fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate. Bottom line is that this is a high end phone. It may not be a flagship phone, but for $500 dollars, you're getting a really good phone/camera/media center. It's well-worth the price. I also own a KEYone and while the K1 is a rock solid phone with an awesome physical keyboard, it seems to me that the DTEK 60 is a better phone. I hate to say it. If you're looking for a new phone and don't want to lay out grand for a new iPhone, give the DTEK 60 a spin. You won't be disappointed in the least.

AWESOME! Works better than similar phones in the same class and doesn't cost as much. Love the slim profile and speed. BlackBerry is a secret as to how to get a very good phone on the cheap and without carrier restrictions in this case.

Didnt have to think to buy again
Repeat purchase as my first phone bought last year took in sea water. Excellent performance till now. Just one issue - nobody could help how to transfer data and contacts to the new phone since its screen blanked out. Google has not backed it up either
