The wide-neck revolution is over. Long live the narrow neck!
So, I've bought a handful of stainless steel water bottles over the last few years, all with wide openings because that is a lot like drinking from a cup.But you don't drink from a cup on your bike or while standing up when walking or anywhere apart from sitting down because water goes everywhere!Following decades of military design, the Nalgene water bottle has a narrow neck and id shaped like a traditional military bottle. It's only in having one that you realise that those bottles curved to sit in an outside rucksack pouch and are easy to hold and drink from. They also sit in a crusader cup giving a water and cooking/drinking solution for little more space than the bottle.Being Nalgene, the plastic is tasteless and it is tough enough with flexibility to feel confident that it wouldn't crack if dropped. The textured surface means that it's slightly opaque but helps a lot with gripping it.The lid has a plastic retainer so you won't lose it and this can slip off for cleaning or if it's in the way.In terms of cleaning, you'd need a bottle brush to get to the top edges, but if you wash it regularly and dry it, that should keep it clean. Plus it's just clear enough to see if it's dirty inside rather than the mystery of a similar metal bottle. It's lighter than a metal bottle and you could probably fit it in a military holder which I haven't tried.I bought mine in May 2019 for £6.95 all ain, At the time of writing they are more than that therefore the mrice may fluctuate.

A worthwhile piece of kit.
The bottle is made of a high quality plastic. It is quite tough and the sides of the bottle are slightly flexible but I do not think that it will take much abuse. The bottle does not impart any after-taste to water. The semi transparency of the plastic makes it easy to see how much water is in the bottle so one can refill it if necessary. The empty bottle is lighter than those of a similar capacity made of aluminium or stainless steel.

Good lighter weight bottle that's lower profile and fits nicely in smaller hands
Great bottles that are lower profile than the standard nalgene. Good if you have smaller hands that find the 1L wide mouth Nalgene bottles awkward. Fit nicely into side pockets on rucksack.Material is a little thinner than standard 1L naglene bottles which makes them a little lighter and a little less rigid. They seem robust enough for the moment. The foliage / green colour is pretty dark, almost black, the blue is a little easier to see. It's a shame they don't put measurements on these as they do with the standard 1L nalgenes.

I really wanted to like this. I dropped it and cracked the head ...
I really wanted to like this. I dropped it and cracked the head meaning that it leaked. I put it down to user error and ordered another one. This other one also ended up cracking even though I don't remember dropping it. I have to take drinks bottles to work and I expect them to take a bit of abuse, not crack under pressure. I've ended up getting a metal one instead. All in all, it's a good bottle but not particularly rugged.

Great
Fed up of using old mineral water bottles for refilling and sticking in my bag, I decided to go ahead and purchase 2 of these bottles, green and blue.Easily hold a litre, no plastic taste or smell - BPA free of that is relevant, hasn't leaked and looking at the closure I don't expect it to.Also fits in the car door pockets (just), so I can put one each side for me and passenger. I generally use the blue one.Maybe not cheap though I don't know too much what people expect, it seems worth it to me and it looks like it should last a good long time.

Nalgene bottle - clearly quality
Well made water bottle in strong (blue) nalgene, modelled on the U.S. military issue water bottle, so compatible with readily available belt packs, cups and canteens. Absolutely no smell or taste to the water, even from new, and we one of these in the boot of the car to hold a drink for the dog. Easily holds one litre of water, the top screws on securely with no leaks and the plastic strip is strong enough to use to attach to a belt or pack with a carabiner - thoroughly recommended.

Happy Nalgene customer!
This really is a great bottle. Large capacity, but it doesn't feel like you're drinking out of a jug, the bottle itself is lightweight with a handy loop attached to the lid you can carry it with. I was worried that it was going to be huge, but it's really not. I'm female with pretty small hands and can sip it easily on the move. Never going back to round bottles. Officially a Nalgene fan now!

A winner
Early days for a proper review - I only got this yesterday, but I like the look and feel of it - which is important. It seems strong and is a good size - it holds a decent amount of water but isn't heavy. I washed it out and gave it a good rinse, filled it up with fresh water and tried it. It tasted really good - not a trace of plastic at all. I've been drinking out of plastic bottles for years, so I really do appreciate the pure taste. So, all in all, it looks good, feels good, and by golly it tastes good.I'm happy. I think it's a keeper. Not expensive either!
