Will trainers fit OK over the top of this?

It is a bit bulk but if the trainers are loose fitting it should be fine.

Can you wear a shoe with the brace?

It depends on the shoes, I was wearing orthopedic surgery shoes when I wore them and when I healed enough for shoes, I didn't need to wear the support again. It will definitely take some space in a your shoes, may be trainers? Thanks.

I am a size 9.5 trainer with reasonably slim ankles. Would I be better buying 7-10 or 10-12???

It all depends on your ankle circumference I'm afraid. It’s possible to suffering a massive inflammation even with an average sized foot. That being said, the 7-10 inch should accommodate a 9.5 trainer (I'm a size 11 and the smaller one fits me fine).

I have flat feet, does this put alot of pressure on your instep? Or cause any pain to flat footed folk?

I have been very pleased with the support it gives to my ankle and by it's ability to do this even when my foot is swollen (meaning that it is size adjustable). I also sometimes have pain in the arch of my foot. Years ago I bought an arch support on Amazon. It was cheap, but good quality and can be worn underneath the ankle support. I hope this is of some use to you.
