Vinland Saga Collection [Blu-ray]

Great Viking Saga Finally Released in UK
I bought my copy at HMV for £40 because I like to support my local shops when I can, and the price difference at the time was minimal, but I had to have it! I've been looking forward to watching this for months, but wasn't going to pay silly money for an import. The danger of that is that the weight of expectations can often mean one is disappointed. I am happy to say that I am not disappointed at all, the series is fine. Well written and nicely drawn, with some great atmospheric backgrounds, Vinland Saga is worth every penny of £40 for the ten hour set.Comparisons to Berserk? Well, maybe a bit, but nowhere near as weird and nothing really compares to Berserk, does it? In fact Vinland Saga reminds me more of the excellent TV series Vikings than anything else, which is a high recommendation. Finally, the 3-disc Blu-ray looks and sounds superb.

A must for Vinland Saga fans
For clarification this product does not only include the DVD discs but actually comprises of a lot more. All of which I will list below.I was expecting it to come in a larger box but all contents fit into a standard blue-ray DVD box which is covered by a glossy print finish featuring artwork from the series.Inside comes a 140 page limited edition paperback book which features information on the story, characters, prop design, background arts, interviews with senior members of the animation team, key visuals, opening animation storyboards, scene making and credits. This is all printed on glossy paper, and is packed with information and artwork in each chapter. The downside is the text is a little small and it could have been better if this book was made of a larger size to fully appreciate the text and visuals of the stunning art and concept design. Also included are 6 double sided art cards from the series which include key visuals, character designs, posters and other art. These are placed gently together in a small paper sleeve. Again I would have preferred these to be bigger, but it'll settle for these. Finally we have the DVD case and discs which comprise of all the episodes from the first series of the saga. Special features include: Clean opening animations, clean closing animations, trailers and the Japanese promos. I would have liked some video interviews with the voice actors which have been done in Japanese but seem absent here together with interviews with the studio but I'll let them off here.Very pleased with the quality of this collectors edition, the limited edition book a highlight given it features information in English about the development of the series which is pretty rare to find.
