Casio Wave Ceptor Men's Watch WVA-M640D

Hello! I decided to buy this watch after looooong thinking, studying reviews and comparisons with other models. I owe few watches already that are more 'classic' in style (steel and leather) and functions (basic quartz and automatic analog)... so I thought to purchase something different this time. My filters were set to titanium case and being self-driven as much as possible (I am fed up with setup of automatic watches everytime I want to use them for just one day...) As usual, my choice was quickly narrowed to Casio which is normally presenting best possible look&functions-to-price ratio and has models meeting all my criteria. Also, that is on the price that do not force me to sell my kidney to get the watch :) I am sharing my experience and feelings after 3 days use. The watch is unusually light, which is not a surprise really, this is full titanium. It also has some plastic rounding bottom-side of the case, which (fortunately) is green'ish in colour and seamlessly matches the case and strap coloring of titanium (being also green-like and delicately brushed). The strap adjustment is a miracle... in opposite to steel ones I know, here there is no tools needed, just a small screwdriver to to twist 90 degrees inside small holes and the strap elements just bump out ! Great solution, Casio ! The watch look is a subjective thing, so I would not get too much excited around this, there are many high-res pictures of the watch to study the look online :) The best I have left on the dessert, as we say in my country... the functions. It has the waveceptor feature automatically gathering the radio-signal, that works really well and ensures I see the right time. It is said in the manual it also follows the DST, which I still need to test. The ToughSolar feature also works well, the solar panels are wisely hidden below the surface and look excellent. I really do recommend this watch. It is worth its price for 110%, I mean it !! Kind Regards Artur

Let me start by setting out MY watch requirements. During my leisure time I need a watch that easily tells me that it is nearly 10am. At work (I drive a bus in the UK) I need to know that I take over my next bus at 0954 Hrs. As I work shifts including weekends, the irregular pattern often leaves me stumbling over day and date. Finally, easy to adjust and read. I thought the last watch I bought (Timex Expedition) answered the above. No. The instruction booklet was incomprehensible. Finally worked out that the simplest of settings involved a procedure like, "In settings mode, press button B, press button A, scroll through the options, if it looks right press buttons A and C in forward or backward sequence, depending on mode/setting required. Took me 2 evenings to set the watch up! Things seemed good until after a few weeks the digital time is an hour out as BST came along, and presumably after a few buttons were accidentally pressed whilst wearing the thing, the alarm goes off every day at 12:10 pm and I don't know how to turn it off or even cancel it! With that background, my experience with the Casio WVA- etc. Arrived promptly, in a very secure metal tin. Put the watch to one side and opened the instruction manual. Odd! Sensibly and logically laid out, in clear English. WELL DONE. With easy confidence I set it up (it does most of it itself) and fine-tuned a couple of things to my taste. Took a few minutes. To remove a couple of links was pure simplicity. 11 out of 10 for set-up. So what have I now got? The watch is a comfortable fit, easy to put on/off. Large watch face, easy to read day or night, and looks quite blingy, if you know what I mean. The analogue face easily tells me the general time. The digital display easily tells me the EXACT time. ONE button press tells me the day and date. Press again to cycle back to time. A different ONE button press for full-face light. Pure simplicity. So far, so good. As they say on the shopping TV channels, "But wait, there's more". This watch maintains accuracy every day by an up-date from the atomic clock. It self adjusts for BST and blinkin' wniter-time. I don't need the manual. What else. It does Multi Time Zone, countdown and Stop Watch. I don't need it, but apparently it does it. When I need these things, I think an I-Phone app is so much more intuitive and LOUDER. Sorry this is a long review, but I wanted to explain why this watch is worth 11 out of 10 for me. Just had a look at the Expedition. It's either just after 7:15pm analogue or 18;17 hours digital. Says it all. For me this Casio is the best time-piece I've ever bought, and it's light,comfy and looks good. (I don't normally do these reviews but an impressed that this does EXACTLY what I want/need.

Measure this watch against any other of a similar spec. and it blows them away. Light and elegant. Titanium body and bracelet. Radio controlled Water resistant 10 bar. Solar powered. Day/date. 5 alarms Timer. Stop watch. Summer time daylight saving World time. - check the time in other cities around the world. Watch face light. Unbelievably easy to take out and put back bracelet links using the special tool supplied with the watch. UNBELIEVABLE FOR £112.50!! The only downer is the lens which is acrylic. Who on earth in Casio made the ludicrous decision to put an acrylic lens on such a fine piece of time keeping? Do the right thing and charge a bit more to cover the cost. I have a citizen f900 and quite a few AT Citizens and it's giving all of them a run for their money! BUY ONE! I have discovered a flaw in this great value watch which may account for the low price. I have a small collection and decided to use this one as my everyday watch. Since wearing it for about a week I have noticed that the bracelet has picked up a lot of scrapes especially near the clasp area. I thought that titanium was supposed to be more resillient than stainless steel. The lens, although not glass, remains unmarked. Still a great watch but I am not surprised that it has this flaw. I now realise why citizen have a special coating on their titanium watches. Something had to give with the spec. against the price. Please don't be put off. This is still a great watch and real value for money. Since my last review the price of this fine watch has gone down even more (approx £18) from when I bought mine. It is the ultimate watch from a practical point of view. Not a collectors watch because it is such great value for money. This watch is for those who want a watch to use that doesn't cost a fortune. It knocks those multi thousand pound, diamond and gold encrusted watches into a cocked hat - unless you like being a poser and can afford that sort of thing.

Ever since I heard about radio-controlled watches, I've wanted one. When my old watch packed up, it gave me a reason to start looking for something that wouldn't cost the earth. I think this Casio watch is the best value for the features available. It's a good looking watch that comes in at 95 grams and doesn't weigh a ton on your wrist. There's something great about hearing the BBC time signal on the radio and as the final beep sounds, the second hand hits the 12 o'clock position on the watch. Magic - it really works. Things to know about this watch: The dial is grey in most lights - it only looks blue in bright light. Personally, I'm OK with this - it still looks good. The watch comes with a tool for taking links out of the watch strap - you do not need to buy a separate kit of tools for this. The body of the watch is grey plastic but you will hardly notice it - the watch dial surround and backing plate are stainless steel. I assume Casio have done this to keep the weight down, so the plastic should be seen as a plus. The watch has the calendar feature - this means that you do not need to adjust the watch for summer time, ends of month date change, leap years etc. The only occasions when it will need adjustment - ever - is when moving time zone. It has 29 time zones built in and I have not yet travelled overseas to see how easy it is to make adjustments. When I received the watch and took it out of its tin (yes, it comes in a tin) the hands whizzed round and stopped an hour ahead of the actual time (it was set to summer time). Rather than make manual adjustments, I left it overnight to see if it would pick up the radio signal in the early hours and correct itself. In the morning it was showing the correct time and proved that it could pick up the signal quite happily on the window sill. If you leave the watch in the dark for several hours the LCD display and secondhand stop working (presumably to save power). If you then switch the light on, you will see the secondhand whizz round to the correct time, and the date/day display comes on. There is a titanium version of this watch which costs £30 more. Unless you want the grey metal look, don't bother with it - it isn't worth the extra. May 10 2014 Since writing the above review, I have travelled to Australia and back crossing (I think) 13 time zones. Here's what I learned about adjusting the watch for time zones: - download the Casio manual pdf file for this watch and put it on your iphone, ipad or whatever. Much easier to consult than the small type, small brick like manual that comes with the watch; - when you are in a new time zone that does not receive a radio signal, follow the instructions for changing your 'home city code'. (The manual does not really say this loud and clear). So if you are starting in the UK, it will say LON. If you arrive in Sydney, Australia, for example, change the home city code to SYD. However, New South Wales uses daytime saving for their winter months, so you need to do one more adjustment for DST. And so on for any other time zone, but I think I am correct in saying, DST is not used by countries in the tropics. - it's still a brilliant watch and even more of a bargain from when I bought it last year.

I bought this watch based on reviews below and I have to say I did like the look of this watch so got myself one. As stated it corrects its self when the box opens, this is because the watch sleeps when in the dark after so long. But it still needs to have received a signal to be correct. Mine shows it last got a signal about march time, its now august, but the time is correct and its at medium power. The watch is very light, it is supposed to be a titanium strap. It does look a much more expensive watch apart from the grey plastic insert around the watch body. The face is very good looking and I hope the finish lasts. Its a very bright face and the blue is a good contrast. The digital display is small but the info it display is very simple and clear. This watch has many features, some only available on more expensive watches. For example, being able to zero the hands to 12 o clock, there is an offset to align them exactly, just to give those with ocd something to do. It will attempt to receive the time signal every night from 12 up to 6 times on each hour. once it has it tries no more until the next night. You can set the city nearest to you wherever you live, 29 locations and you can set a world time place for the digital display time. setting the strap is easy took me about 15 secs, I have not used this method before and it is very good, might need to micro adjust it, which you can at the clasp but it is very comfortable. All in all a nice watch and one I shall wear often, it is very similar to a citizen I have but that is my bestest watch.

Had this watch a couple of weeks now and find it excellent. A little read of the the rather small print instruction book before set up and you're away. Link removal is so easy with the small tool provided.( what a great idea the link removal system is). It took me about 2 minutes to remove 4 links without any expletives. The strap feels very good quality but also very lightweight, so you hardly notice you are wearing it at all. Timekeeping is spot on to the second ( I'm a saddo that occasionally checks it against the time signal and take great delight to see it in perfect synch at all times). The only slight downside may be the backlight. It is just about adequate but no big issue for me as I rarely use it. The battery and solar function seem great. I take no great measures to recharge in the sun but the battery indicator has always remained on high at all times, so I'm fairly confident that the watch will always have enough power for my needs. All in all, a well built watch, looks great, feels comfortable and good value for money. Update. 6 years on and this watch is still working like it did when first purchased and has never missed a beat. Everything about it is superb!

i saw this watch and got is as a present for fathers day from the kids. it is a very smart looking watch and with the waterproof feature it is great.also with solar it never needs resealed after battery replacement,which costs a fortune with resealing. once the watch is set up to the correct time zone you wear it and forget it is even on.at 02.03 most mornings the radio signal is received(been slightly different time occasionally).as i work on buses i thought i would check the ticket machines and they change over within a second of the watch.my bus is never late now!lol. the watch comes in a tin and the strap adjustment is the best i have seen.a little plastic tool is included,some of the links have little holes in them you push the tool into the little hole pull gently on the link and they pop apart adding is just as easy.it's like a toy so easy to do.i took 5 links out of mine.it is so light to wear and there is a plastic part just around the watch you can hardly see it when you are wearing it this is to keep the weight down and to receive the time signal.the actual back of the watch is metal though.at night it is luminous the number bars and hands and there is also a orangy coloured light but i don't really see a need for it.also when the watch has been in the dark for a few hours it 'sleeps'the second hand stops and the lcd display goes off.this saves the battery and i normal.it has stopwatch/countdown timer and i think 3 alarms/hr signal i don't use alarms as they are a bit quiet but watch alarms are,i need a bulldozer to wake me.no more putting the watch back/forward at dst as it's done for me. the digital and analogue watches are synchronized automatically.all in all i am very happy with the watch and would recommend to anyone.

I'm really impressed with this watch. It does absolutely everything I want in an everyday watch for work. I had an old Citizen Eco Drive solar watch with a titanium case that I must have had for about 12 years. It looks battered now (titanium does pick up scratches quite easily) but is still going strong - but the face looks a little small today. When I started looking around for a replacement I quickly came up with a wishlist - looks nice, waterproof, solar powered, atomic clock sync, titanium, affordable. The number of watches that fall into this category is really small, in fact this Casio WVA-M640TD-1AER is the only one I found and liked. It arrived last night in a really smart metal tin, together with a really thick instruction book with tiny writing in it. I found the instruction manual you can download off the Casio website much clearer and easier to follow. It was quite straight forward to change the time zone to LON and change the world time so it shows Orlando for our next holiday. The bracelet is a work of genius - really easy to adjust without taking into a shop using the special tool supplied. The watch looks great on my wrist. I like the titanium finish - yes there are parts of the watch in plastic but that just adds to the really light weight I'd hoped for with a titanium case and strap. The watch goes to sleep at night and makes me smile when the lights come on, it wakes up and the second hand sweeps around the dial. I love the thought that it's the most accurate watch I own even if it's the cheapest. Never having to adjust the date or change for daylight savings time is just a bonus. I thoroughly recommend this.

Realmente nada que reseñar. No puedo opinar sobre la estanqueidad de este reloj ya que no me he bañado aún con él, puesto. La puesta al "dia" muy fácil. (al menos para mi.) Puestos a hilar fino, al poner la ciudad de referencia para que pusiera la hora automáticamente (PARIS) me encontré con un desfase de unos 2 minutos en relacion con otros equipos . Hice un ajuste manual y desde entonces va perfecto. Este reloj pesa muy poco y no molesta . El ajuste de la cadena más sencillo no puede ser y las instrucciones que se adjuntan con el reloj son muy comprensibles. Y para terminar, la carga fotovoltaica funciona a la perfección. Tal vez una persona que no sea "manitas" le pueda costar algo más para poner a punto este reloj. Como es lógico el tiempo dirá si las características de este reloj se conservan.

Ho acquistato questo modello perchè volevo un orologio radiocontrollato che non richiedesse la sostituzione della pila;devo dire che al momento sono pienamente soddisfatto.E molto leggero e preciso.Si indossa comodamente e la regolazione del cinturino in titanio per mezzo dell'apposito inserto fornito in dotazione nella confezione rende assolutamente inutile l'intervento di un orologiaio. Consiglio a tutti coloro che vogliono un orologio non troppo costoso,bello,funzionale e allo stesso tempo molto comodo da indossare e dal peso ridotto.

Molto buone la cura e la gradevolezza estetica. Preso in sostituzione di un primissimo analogo modello wvc 4304 ancora funzionante da oltre una quindicina d'anni nonostante urti, maltrattamenti, pressioni e immersioni di ogni tipo. Le funzioni sono le stesse: per chi lo acquista la prima volta, occorre ovviamente prenderci un po' la mano per saperle ben gestire. A tale proposito vorrei suggerire al produttore (o chi per esso) di mettere in campo un MANUALE degno di tal nome poiché la lettura dei caratteri microscopici, anche se desunti dal sito Ufficiale in PDF, non aiuta un neofita a prendere facilmente confidenza con le numerose indicazioni e combinazioni. Desta dispiacere anche il fatto che, a differenza del precedente modello, qui non sono previste dal display le sigle in italiano. Bene la lucetta di richiamo ma non altrettanto le inudibili suonerie. Tutte venialità, comunque, rispetto al generale assetto, alla puntualità ed alla comodità di tale ottimo prodotto, soprattutto considerando il prezzo e le aspettative indotte dagli esiti dell'analogo modello già posseduto da cui deriva. Vivamente consigliato.

Tout est dans le titre... ;) J'ai choisi ce modèle en fonction des commentaires des précédents acheteurs et je ne suis vraiment pas déçu ! Montre commandée lundi matin, reçue mardi après-midi, chapeau Amazon... :O . La première chose qui m'a surpris en sortant la montre de sa (très jolie) boîte, c'est sa légèreté. J'ai d'abord pensé que j'avais reçu par erreur le modèle en titane :) mais non. L'explication est qu'en fait le boitier est en partie en plastique, comme indiqué dans le descriptif d'ailleurs (ils disent "résine", ça fait mieux mais c'est bien du plastique), je n'avais pas percuté. Mais ça n'est pas vraiment un inconvénient, avec son poids plume la montre est très agréable à porter et le plastique est très discret, j'espère juste qu'il tiendra dans le temps. Les commentaires précédents soulignent la facilité de réglage du bracelet, effectivement ça a été encore plus simple et rapide que je m'y attendais (moins de 10s... montre en main ;) pour enlever deux maillons de chaque côté. Également signalé, la couleur du cadran est effectivement plus foncée que sur la photo, à l'intérieur il paraît presque noir, en pleine lumière ou à l'extérieur on voit qu'il s'agit plutôt d'un gris bleuté très foncé, finalement bien plus beau et plus "classe" que sur la photo, et sur lequel les aiguilles se détachent nettement pour une lisibilité parfaite (y compris la trotteuse). La montre était à l'heure d'hiver, j'ai tenté une réception manuelle du signal mais étant à Marseille, je dois être un peu limite pour la portée de l'émetteur (j'ai le même problème avec une autre horloge radio-pilotée), j'ai donc activé manuellement le DST. Par contre, dès la nuit suivante la montre a bien reçu le signal et s'est synchronisée, tout baigne donc. Seul petit défaut, également signalé précédemment, le jour de la semaine ne peut pas être affiché en français (et aussi, bizarrement, la montre affiche le jour et la date, mais on ne peut pas afficher le mois, sauf en mode réglage). Et si on veut vraiment chercher la petite bête, le graphisme de l'afficheur n'est pas très beau, assez grossier, ce qui tranche un peu avec l'esthétique générale de la montre. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, c'est une montre superbe (et aussi, il faut le dire, d'un rapport prix/prestations inégalé) que j'adore déjà et que j'espère porter longtemps...

Ich war auf der Suche nach einer Uhr, die ich auch ohne Lesebrille ablesen kann. Nach etlichen brillenlosen Wanderungen durch diverse Geschäfte habe ich festgestellt, dass diese Anforderung die Auswahl drastisch einschränkt. Diese Uhr ist schon mal eine der best-ablesbaren - nicht nur im Laden, sondern auch im normalen Alltag. Es ist auch meine erste Uhr deren eingebaute Beleuchtung wirklich was taugt. Ausserdem sieht sie gut aus und ist auch nicht zu klobig. Die Bedienung ist im englischen (PDF-) Handbuch gut beschrieben zur deutschen Übersetzung kann ich nichts sagen (siehe unten). Funk-Uhr-Präzision ist natürlich toll. Der Empfang ist offenbar in Deutschland unproblematischer als anderswo. Man muss also nicht die Uhr nachts aufs Fensterbrett legen - geht auch einfach so. Die Solarfunktion finde ich - nach anfänglicher Skepsis - faszinierend. Die Uhr lädt sich auch bei normalem Raumlicht auf - ohne dass man ständig dran denken muss, den Ärmel nach hinten zu schieben. Der Batteriepuffer soll angeblich 4 Monate komplett ohne Licht halten. Die Ladeanzeige steht bei mir fast immer auf "hoch", selten mal auf "mittel" scheint also gut zu funktionieren. Über Langzeitverhalten (Akku-Kapazität und -Austauschkosten) kann ich natürlich noch nichts sagen. Das Verkürzen des elephantenmäßig großen Armbands ist genial einfach, ein Druck mit dem mitgelieferten Plastiktteil und das Glied geht auf. Die ausführlichen Anleitungen in Youtube für Casio Uhren kann man sich bei dem Modell also schenken. Die beigefügte Bedienungsanleitung ist ein Ärgernis. Übersetzt in gefühlte 250 Sprachen, so groß wie 2 aneinandergelegte Zündholzschachteln und eine Schriftgröße von 1 mm. Also unlesbar und daher völlig nutzlos. Auf der Webseite von Casio gibt es allerdings das (englische) Handbuch zum Download. Das habe ich VOR dem Kauf gemacht, da so was besser als jede blumige Produktbeschreibung ist. (Die Anleitung für die Armbandverkürzung gab es leider nur auf Papier mit Mikrolettern. Aber man bekommt das auch intuitiv hin.) Alles in allem: Ein sehr guter Kauf.
