As a first timer working with clay of any kind, I wanted to make name tags for Christmas presents. Slightly wetting my fingers on a damp sponge before rolling the clay made it super easy to work with. Running a wet finger along the edges smoothed them out from the cookie cutter. Used a very cheap alpha stamp and then an acrylic gold pen when dry. Chuffed with the results! Flipped over after 24 hrs to dry on the other side. Totally dry after 48 hrs. Stored in a zip loc bag in between uses. One pack did loads ... just ordered another pack!

We bought this, some of the flesh-coloured air-dry clay and a pack of the coloured oven-dry clay from Fimo. I have to say I was more impressed by the oven-dry clay than the air-dry, but I will admit that for really young kids, 3-5, the oven-dry clay may be a bit too messy. This clay comes in a large tablet. The pack it comes in isn't perfectlty air-tight once opened, which makes the clay slowly dry out, so you need to either work with it soon after opening, or put it into another air-tight zip-lok bag. Once opened, the clay itself is a lot drier than other clays, and dries out quickly. It's also not so great at small things, so I'd say the smallest you could reasonably make would be about the size of a 5p. Smaller than that, and it's too brittle after drying. Contrast that with the oven-dry stuff which sets hard as a rock even if it's pea-sized or smaller! While working with the clay, you have to be fast. It dries out incredibly quickly. I'd say if you haven't got your piece into shape within about 10 minutes, you'll find the clay starts to get brittle and won't stick to itself any more. You can try to moisten it, but that had mixed results for me. I found that once it had started to dry, even joints that were made with moistened clay were weak and broke soon after the piece had finished drying. I needed to use a lot of UHU glue to stick things back together. While working with the clay you can feel when it's starting to dry out, and you can see the wrinkles starting to form on the surface which gives you warning that time is running out. So I wouldn't use this for any serious work, it's just for fun play with the kids. Once dried, the surface is often full of wrinkles and holes. I found that I had to put a "topcoat" of a "polyfilla wash" to fill in the cracks and prepare the surface for painting. Again, that's only if you're trying to make something nice. If it's just the kids mucking about, you can just leave it as it comes and get the little ones to have at it with the watercolour paints. The paint soaks right into the clay and it's dry in minutes. It's great clay for little kids, so long as there's an adult to hand out the clay and ensure the main block is kept wrapped up. It's cheap and fun to work with. In general, so long as you're doing bigger things, it works really well, and if you're not overly fussed about the output being worthy of the Tate Modern, then it can make some nice-looking stuff. It also cleans up quite easily since it turns to dust pretty quickly. a hoover and a damp cloth are all that's needed to wipe away any trace of the messy play.

Zwischen Bestellung und Versand vergingen keine 15h. Sehr gut verpackt. Wir haben nun auch schon damit gearbeitet und es ist natürlich ganz anders als das gewöhnliche Fimo. Wirklich ähnlich zu Ton. Und auch von der gesamten Verarbeitung fast genauso. Allerdings trocknet es ziemlich schnell aus und wir mussten es oft anfeuchten. Was ich sehr schade finde ist, dass es sehr schnell einreisst. Und es bleibt irgendwie viel an den Händen kleben. Es ist schon ziemlich weich und wenn man es knetet und dann auch etwas Wasser einknetet, dann bekommt man es so hin, dass es sehr geschmeidig ist und man es sehr schön verarbeiten kann. Ich hab erstmal eine Technik versucht, die ich vor mehr als 20 Jahren in der Schule versuchte. Nämlich aus vielen, ca. 5 bis 8mm dicken langen "Würsten/Strängen" eine Schale arbeiten. Man legt die Würste im Kreis übereinander und macht immer weiter, indem man am Ende des letzten Stranges den neuen legt. Und um dann gerade Wände hinzubekommen, so daß man die Würste gar nicht mehr sieht, eben dafür ist dieses Werkzeug sehr gut, denn damit kann man die Übergänge "verwischen". Ich werde noch Fotos hinzufügen, wenn die Schale fertig ist. Superschön finde ich, dass das Material weiss aushärtet. Ungehärtet ist es grau. Und nach 24h Trocknung kommt es einem irgendwie flexibel vor. Ob das noch weggeht, je länger es trocknet weiss ich jetzt noch nicht. Ich finde es aber gar nicht schlecht, wenn es so bleiben würde, denn so wird es bestimmt nicht leicht brechen. Ich habe als 2.Objekt eine ziemlich dünnwandige, kleine Schale gemacht, die ich als Teelichthalter nutzen möchte. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass das so dünn so gut hält. Ich würde sehr gerne kleine Lampenschirme daraus arbeiten. Mal sehen. Bis jetzt bin ich jedenfalls sehr zufrieden und mein Sohn auch. Kaufempfehlung. (Nachtrag am 22.11.20: Ich habe den Artikel von 4 auf 5 Sterne angehoben, weil ich mittlerweile eine Langzeit-Erfahrung habe und letztens erst weitere Projekte damit umgesetzt habe. 1. Die Artikel, die ich kurz nach Lieferung geformt habe sind noch genau so, wie kurz nach der kompletten Durchtrocknung. Was mir wirklich sehr gut gefällt ist die Beschaffenheit und auch Haptik des Materials, nachdem es getrocknet ist. Es ist sehr leicht, aber trotzdem sehr robust. Vermutlich, weil es ein klein wenig flexibel ist. 2. Ich habe vor wenigen Tagen ein wenig mit dem Material gespielt. Ich mache in der letzten Zeit viel Schmuck, vor allem aus Polymerton. Diese Masse hier ist ja nicht wie Fimo und auch nicht kompatibel, was ich zwar sehr schade finde, weil ich eigentlich vor hatte, größere Schmuckstücke aus Fimo, Sculpey, Cernit oder Kato,mit diesem Material zu unterlegen oder zu füllen, damitich nicht soviel des teuren Polymertons verwenden muss. Leider ging das nicht. Zumindest habe ich bis jetzt keine Möglichkeit gefunden.Das Fimo bleibt nicht dran haften. Auch nicht, wenn man flüssiges Fimo verwendet. Ich bin aber noch nicht durch mit meinen Experimenten diesbezüglich. Was ich dadurch aber bemerkt habe ist, daß man dieses Fimo Air basic, entgegen aller bisherigen Stimmen, DOCH im Ofen aushärten kann. Ich habe bereits angetrocknete Stücke in den Ofen gegeben bei 120°C und habe es dort 40 Minuten drin gelassen. Und es ist nicht kleiner geworden, hat sich auch nicht verfärbt oder sonstiges. Sollte ich nun doch eine Methode finden,wie ich Fimo Air Basic mit Fimo/Polymerton verwenden kann, indem ich Fimo Air Basic als Füllmaterial verwende, werde ich es hier verkünden. (Sollte es hier jemanden geben, der bereits weiß, wie man Fimo Air Basic als Füllmaterial für größere Polymerton-Arbeiten verwendet, wäre ich wirklich dankbar über einen Kommentar/eine Antwort, in der man mir beschreibt, wie man dies vollbringt.) Ich mache Edelstein-Cabochons aus Polymerton.Also runde,ovale und tränenförmige Cabochons, die das Ausehen von Edelsteinen und Halbedelsteinen imitieren und wirklich echt aussehen.Nur leider muss man bei großen Cabochons sehr viel des teuren Polymertons verwenden und ich hatte gehofft,die Grundform der Cabochons mit Fimo Air Basic machen zu können, auf die ich dann die dünne Schicht des Edelsteine-imitierenden Fimos drauf lege. Bisher hält das Fimo aber nicht am Fimo Air Basic. Vielleicht, müsste ich mal probieren, das Fimo Air Basic vorher nicht zu trocknen, aber ich hatte das bisher nicht getan, weil ich befürchte, dass beim backprozess Probleme auftauchen. Ich hab bisher immer das Fimo Air Basic vorher schon getrocknet und geschliffen etc. 3. Ganz toll finde ich, dass man Fimo Air Basic nach Durchtrocknung so toll bearbeiten und vor allem schleifen kann. Es wird dann sehr schön und glänzt sogar leicht, wenn man es mit einer 1000er Körnung schleift und poliert. Man kann so wirklich superschöne, an Elfenbein erinnernde Perlen machen. )
