Very insightful
This book is a great go to for Architects trying to understand what structural engineers deal with. I definitely recommend this for engineers but definitely for architects like myself.

contains relevant information. Not in deep, just general concepts

Must have
Fantastic book, there are some errors in it and some grammatical errors, but incredibly useful! Any graduate structural engineer it is an absolute must have. When it comes to the beam deflection, moment and shear checks worth checking against your university notes.

Better, but still not perfect
I bought this book despite seeing the reviews about the mistakes. This is still the third edition, however some of the mistakes appear to have been fixed (or were never there). For a simply supported beam with a UDL, a previous reviewer mentioned the Max Bending Moment was listed as wL/8 and should be w(L^2)/8. It is now listed as WL/8, where W=wL, so is in fact correct. Another mistake listed by reviewers was that the deflection formula for a simply supported beam with a UDL has the denominator as 38 rather than 384. It has now been corrected to 384.However, the diagrams for the steel sections still do not match the tables. For example, with a UKB the flange is denoted as 't' and the web 's' in the diagram, however in the tables they are listed as tf and tw. Although this is easy to work out, I agree with others that it does reduce confidence in the rest of the book.I've not been through the rest of the book yet, I've only checked the errors listed by past reviewers. It appears to have been partial corrected without creating a new edition of the book. Overall, this book appears to be a good purchase, albeit potentially not for a working Engineer to solely rely on without doing some fact checking. I will update my review if I find any other errors as I use the book.

Great for architects and students!
As an architect student having just completed first year... I found this book essential for when designing buildings and having to work out structurally how big things need to be. I already had the architects pocketbook which has been invalueable... however there were just certain details I needed to know. It's an excellent book to accompany the other... just wish I had got it sooner in the year. I have the large red metric planning handbook which is another book well worth having... but this structural engineers pocketbook just made life so much easier!
