Supports multi-channel ADAT!
Looking at "SPDIF" switches, while actually wanting ADAT support for a mixer, music gear, or a Eurorack synthesizer? This is the one that you want. There are various TOSLINK switches out there, but most of them only mention supporting SPDIF. This one definitely supports full ADAT as well, despite not mentioning it in the product description. For reference, TOSLINK is the cable and connector that carries information as light. SPDIF is one very common audio signal carried over TOSLINK, used in a lot of consumer media equipment. ADAT is another, more specific type of signal. SPDIF carries stereo audio, giving you two channels. ADAT supports up to eight channels, and is often found in music recording studios, mixers, and other music gear.I was looking for a switch to let me connect my Eurorack (Expert Sleepers ES-3 and ES-6 modules) to my mixer (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20) from two different locations in my study. I had tried a few other TOSLINK switches that various forum posts had suggested might work, but when I plugged them in they all failed in various ways. Most typically, they would duplicate one channel's audio across all outputs, and introduce lots of crackles and pops. Not surprising, really, but I had to return a few.I found one review on this product that said it supported ADAT, and decided to give it a try. Arrived this afternoon, and I've just plugged it in and run it for the past ten minutes. Working flawlessly using all 6 output channels simultaneously on my ES-6 going into the Focusrite. I'll be buying another one as soon as I finish this review so that I can have one going into the ES-3, and leaving this one going out of the ES-6.The casing is fairly standard plastic, and it certainly doesn't ooze high build quality. (Not that it's obviously rubbish either, but an aluminium case would have inspired so much more confidence.) It's powered by a mini-USB cable, which is... charmingly retro? I can't speak to longevity, as I've been using it for all of half an hour at this point, but it's worked flawlessly in terms of audio quality -- no signal degradation that I can hear, and not a single crackle, pop, or glitch. There is an IR extender for the IR remote control, so you could certainly hide this away in the rats' nest of cables in your studio or media centre. Alternatively, you can just have it accessible and press the manual switch. As I'm going to have two, I assume that they'll be responding to the same IR frequency and so I can switch both at the same time to get input and output switched when I move my system around. All in all: if you've been desperately hunting for an ADAT switch for your own obscure and complex reasons, I think this is probably going to make you happy. It seems to do the job perfectly, and is cheap enough to take a gamble. Very happy to have found this, and I'll be ordering another one now.

It Actually Works!
First of all for the benefit of others who are unsure what this does:-To be crystal clear, this device will allow you to connect up to 2 optical devices like a Smart TV, or an Xbox or a PC which have optical Outputs and connect these to the inputs of the Portta switch - you then connect the output of the Portta switch to something like a Home Theatre System or an Amplifier to enable high quality 5.1 sound output. By using the remote control or the manual switch on the box, you can just toggle between your Smart TV and your PC for example without having to keep unplugging and plugging in the optical plugs. It's easy to get confused with other units that provide 1 audio input source and splitting this into 2 audio outputs for say, Bluetooth headphones and a speaker system so that you can have both the audio output playing to 2 devices at the same time - so don't get these mixed up as they do different jobs.I use my PC during the day and have the audio switched to this source. Late at night I switch to the Smart TV / Roku - perfect.Everything is in the kit except the actual TOSLINK cables of course. Although the USB cable to power the switch is included, you will need to ensure you have access to a USB port that has sufficient power. Many extension cable boxes now include USB ports, so these are ideal.Everything works as it should and very pleased with the switch so far.

Good value and works very well
For a while, I have been looking for a Toslink Switcher as I have an Astro A50 gaming headset but the Mixamp only has one optical input, but I have two gaming consoles; a PS3 & PS4. If I want to use my headphones on both consoles I have to keep disconnecting the optical cable from one and attaching to the other, needless to say, this is a pain in the butt. The Toslink Switcher is simply packaged, to say the least, it arrived in a pink bubble wrap envelope which doesn't fill you full of confidence that the device inside is of a desirable quality, but first impressions can be deceptive. The unit itself is tiny and very lightweight, you would be forgiven for thinking that you have received and empty plastic shell. Included with the Switcher is a USB to Mini USB power cable, it is a little on the short side, it wouldn't reach my USB power source so I used a USB extension which I, fortunately, found lying unused in my spaghetti drawer of cables, I knew it would come in handy one day! There is small remote and simple remote control which performs just two functions; power the Switcher on and off, and switch between inputs 1 & 2, and for these simple tasks it works very well. The unit doesn't have a built-in IR receiver, there is an extension which connects to the box via a 3.5mm jack, the benefit of this is you can hide the box out of sight and just leave the IR receiver visible. There is also a basic instruction manual, which I haven't used.Setting the Switch up is easy providing you have enough Optical cables and after much rummaging, I found the three I needed. Simply connect two Optical cables from your input devices into the input ports on the Switcher, then connect the third cable from the Switcher to you output device. To power the Switcher, connect the USB lead to the Switcher then to a power source, this can be a mains USB adapter, gaming console, PC or TV, anything with a USB port will work. Finally, connect the IR extension to the Switcher and turn it on by flicking the small switch on the side of the unit. The remote has a piece of clear plastic sticking out, pull this out for it to work.Because the unit is so small and lightweight, the weight of the cables connected tips the unit back so it's virtually pointing toward the ceiling, I suppose you could use some sticky pads to keep it flat, but I just placed my desktop speaker on top to weigh it down. Upon first use, I was impressed how quickly you can switch between inputs, a press of the button on the remote instantly changes channels, this is just a tiny delay before the audio can be heard. If you prefer there is also a small button on the front of the unit which allows you to manually switch between inputs. To indicate which channel is in use there are two very bright blue LEDS's simply labeled 1 & 2, these make it easy to see which device you are connected to any one time. I have used the Switcher for over the weekend and listened to audio from both gaming consoles and so far I haven't experienced any problems such audio dropouts or deterioration in sound quality, the unit has performed perfectly.Overall this is a great little unit, not only is it competitively priced compared to some other switch boxes that I have looked at in the past, but it is easy to set up and it works very well. The only downsides are the unit is very lightweight and if good quality cables are used it is difficult to keep the box flat. The USB power lead supplied is also a bit too short, unless the Swither is located very close to a USB port you will need a longer cable or a USB extension.
