24V 12 in Cordless String Trimmer, 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger

The Greenworks 24V 12" trimmer is easy to use. I bought it for the angle-adjusting head. I have a steep bank to clear and the adjustability of the head is a great improvement over any previous trimmer that I have used. It is quick and powerful, and I found the auto-feed easy to use and effective. The battery life is excellent, though the indicator made it appear that it is running down more quickly than it actually is. All in all I give it five stars for everything. This is a good quality machine.

The accompanying photo shows what I did in less than ten minutes. I was surprised that it tore into the grass so aggressively. Altogether, I trimmed about 60 feet of well established overgrown edges. I was then confused as it stopped. I thought the motor burnt up. After several attempts to get it to go again, stupid me, I realized the battery needed to be charged. I do have some excuse as I just started attacking some of the weeds against the fence and the motor did have a good test. The machine adjusted easily and quickly. It felt very natural in may hands. Unfortunately, as with most tools, it did all the work and I did all the sweating. Why is that so. I was surprised at how the string held up. I was afraid that I should have ordered more string, but from the looks of things, the ones supplied will last a couple of months. The battery lasted about 40 minutes. As I said, the machine did have a major workout. In some regards, it might have been better if I got a more power but maybe not. I suspect that once I get the edging under control, it will be more than up to the job. I guess working on the edging 30 minutes at a time is more than enough for this 78 year-old. I might add as a cautionary note, it is always a good idea to wear protective glasses. In this case it is particularly true. If I had not been wearing eye protection, I just might have ha to take a trip to the emergency room. I noted that my glasses did get hit two or three times. WEAR EYE PROTECTION.

Total garbage. String line does not feed. Even for the small jobs have to take it apart 15 times to do what should take five minutes. In the garbage smashed to pieces.

update: battery life is horrible. after 3rd cut i cannot do entire yard anymore. after running out of string, auto advance doesn't work anymore. I use 65 with so maybe that was wrong. however, this is minor because I can't remember a string trimmer, either electric or battery where the auto advance works still good as an edger. Original: I bought this item because I'm cheap so price was the number one driver as background 54 male 260 lbs. The first time I used it was a little awkward because I was used to my Sun Joe which I loved but couldn't find a new spool cover, for the second time I've used this it was much better and having it at a 30° angle was a godsend and it did such a great job, so much better than 45° angle. this has plenty of power. the string that came with it was better than expected. it's an incredible edger and will dig deep if not careful. although the wheels that come with it to help with edging set it too high for me, but that just might be personal preference. the string feed is very conservative and there are times that you need to self-advance it depending on what you're doing, but around a chain link fence. it's it's wonderful. the flower guide I think would be better if it was underneath the spool instead of on top of it for edging at least, but that's a minor minor thing. overall, this is a great buy. the battery life and charging time is respectable.

I tried it edge the lawn, eady to install ,powerful and fast. Good to use, over the worth of value. love it.

Initial response: Trimmer line feed does not work. Initially I thought it was feeding, but it doesn't feed at all. Update: After finally getting the string head off and extending it a few inches and also reading the user manual, I was able to make it feed the line. That said, it takes a while to extend it. I have to turn it off. Let it come to a stop and then turn it on again. This will extend the line only about 1 inch. I had to do this several times to get a decent line length. The line that comes with the unit breaks very easily, so it takes a while to get an easy job done. I'll get back to you as I work with it and maybe change the line.

The Greenworks 24V Cordless String Trimmer/Edger is a good edger that cut through grass and other thin plants well, but has an extendable arm that just wouldn't stay in place. I really wanted to like this edger, but found it terribly frustrating to use because I couldn't get the extendable pole to lock securely into place. The battery life is great, the speed and power of the edger were strong enough to cut through grass and other plants well, the unit was lightweight, and I loved the attachable wheels to help guide the edger in a straight line while taking most of the weight. What I didn't like was the pole that rotates the head. Even after tightening it, the head would always rotate while I was using it. If I had the head set vertically, the vibrations would slowly end up rotating the cutting head horizontally. When set horizontally, it would slowly begin to turn vertically. There is no way to really lock it into place like my old Black and Decker edger. The way this particular edger pole locks in place is with a clip type latch. Even after tightening it, it would inevitably start rotating again. Additionally, the pole would also retract itself back to "starting" length because the latch couldn't hold the extended length in place. This was just so irritating I ended up returning the unit. I'm not sure if I just happened to get a bum unit, but I prefer the pull out and turn locking system of my old edger. This would have been a perfect unit if the extender/rotating pole stayed in place, but alas. This is not something I would recommend.

Love this trimmer. Works great! Easy to put together. Lasted as long as I could in the Florida summer heat. The only draw back is the metal guide for edging gets in the way for weed wacking. But the edging part does work for little areas and touch ups. Maybe not for large areas of edging. But all in all, very happy with the purchase.
