Are the screw holes really 1/2” in diameter as shown on the schematic of the hinge?

No, the holes are standard size used on hinges in the US. I installed them on a bedroom door which was a simple process of removing the old one, installing the new one. Lube them good with WD40 before installation, it will prevent them from squeaking.

How man hinges will you need for a 2'-6" hollow core door?
