Good product, good build quality, GREAT customer service from Steelman
Just received the Steelman Wireless Chassis ear and after installing the provided batteries, I went to test each transmitter and microphone. All four transmitters powered up and all the On/Off switches worked well with a noticeable detent. All four clamp microphones worked, and all cables fit nicely, the station select buttons all worked nice. I like how the case came with the precut storage if you expand the set from 4 transmitters to 6, which I plan on doing in the future.I did have one concern and that was one of the microphones did have a noticeably lower audio output compared to the other three. After switching the mic to other transmitters, I determined it was the mic and not the transmitter. I immediately called the Steelman customer support and spoke with Chris, I explained my situation and he quickly took care of it by shipping out a replacement mic! As a professional, good customer support is very valuable and important in this industry.I will do business again with Steelman Products.

It works
Is it built cheaply? Yes. But it does the job, and the quality is not that bad. Honestly even if it was built tough it probably wouldn’t survive a mishap if a receiver fell off the chassis while driving at highway speeds. It helped me diagnose a bad bearing very easily, as well as the bearings that are on their way out that are not yet audible to the naked ear. The headphones included suck, but throw on a pair of Bose over ear headphones and you’re good to go.

Saved me multiple times
These chassis ears are definitely a good buy. Ive used them quite a couple of times now that i work at Hyundai as a mechanic and the amount of people coming in with noise concerns have definitely made me put this machine through its paces. My workplace actually has the wired version of this but I didnt want to wait for whenever it was available for use and i personally dont like dealing with the wires, especially if the noise is outside the vehicle. The cost of this machine is definitely worth it. My only gripe is that i wish it came with longer cable ties but thats only because of the nature of my job. Its easy to use, the noise gets louder the closer you are to the source, and the signal light also helps. I absolutely recommend this to any mechanic who needs chassis ears.

Useful Tool, Poor Quality, No Alternatives
So this is a very useful piece of kit and to my knowledge, Steelman is the only company making such a device. There are some rebrands, but they're all Steelman made I believe. The basic function of the tool is fine. The microphones are sensitive, and the receiver intuitive. As others have mentioned though the build quality is just awful. The clips on the back of the transmitters snap under the slightest stress (they can't hold the weight of the transmitter itself going over bumps), the microphone to transmitter interface fits very slopped resulting in the mics getting pulled out easily and ceasing transmission. The plastics are your finest ABS sewer pipe grade, and the whole thing feels quite cheap. That having been said, I understand with this being an occassional use tool, there's a need to cut costs because people aren't going to spend a ton on something they only use once in a while. Things like the case being a bit chinsy is fine, even the receiver feeling as cheap as it does is acceptable to me. But once you start compromising on function with the flimsy clips and bad connections, you've penny pinched too far.

Would have paid for itself years ago!
At some point in time, every vehicle I've owned has developed a chassis noise of some type.Sometimes it's a straightforward identification and repair but more often than not it is a time-consuming trial and error process. Many times, replacing components that were not the culprit. This kit makes it much easier to identify the location of noises under the car.Tried it out on my son's car when he was about to replace tie rods because he was convinced that was the source of his problem.Attached the sensors to the tie rods, control arms and the strut and went for a test drive. After a short learning curve, we were able to rule out the tie rod and identify a control arm issue. Upon closer inspection the forward control arm bushing was bad. This wasn't without a price though. When mounting one of the transmitters I didn't take into account the change in the position of the suspension when we dropped the car from the jack for the test drive.Ended up crushing transmitter during the test drive and now only have 3 functioning sensors.Irritating bt still well worth it in terms of time and cost of replacing good parts.

Gets the job done
Works good, decent value for the money, however some parts feel cheap. good tool to use for the intermittent clunks/rattles, can save you time and headaches, however it can be a hassle and take some time to put all the batteries in and set it up when I need to use it. Each module takes 4 AAA batteries, and the handheld brick takes 6 AA batteries. Modules also seem to use batteries fairly quick, however this is by far more convenient than the Wired unit that I had before, they also have a Gen 2 of this wireless unit now, so check that before purchasing.
