Radio control in model boating
Has any one realize that yhis type of books eventually lead into our exploration of Mars? It is more practical for youth club to initial our youngster to build model instead of watching and playing video games which is more expansive. Sony will not like that. K.L.

A so-so addition to my model boat library
This book contains some constructive, basic, radio control information. That being said, much is to be desired in the catagory of more up to date technology. Lipo batteries are not even mentioned as one example. If you have little or no RC experience this book might be a place to start.

A bit dated
Unfortunately the book is dated. I am a complete newcomer to radio control and I was hoping for a more practical approach to fitting out a model boat especially the electrical side of things including setting up lighting systems and how they are connected up and controlled. Although my knowledge is very limited I realises in looking through the book that much of today's equipment has moved on and this is where the book falls down. I know from looking at advertisements for equipment that radio frequency bands have obviously completely changed. There are one or two sections that are still useful such as waterproofing the model. Overall though, the book didn't help me on how to set up the circuits within a boat. The book has quite a lot on history and what clubs get up to; competitions etc., but I was really looking for something with clear diagrams and detailed circuit diagrams. The books photographs are somewhat obscure and the author's writing is sort of boy-scoutish in its style.

Radio Control
I shall be a little kinder than some reviewers. The copy I have is a "revised" edition from 2008. As an introduction to fitting radio control equipment into the boats the book fulfills its stated aim, though given modern printing methods more use could have been made to revise the pictures from b & w to colour. With regard to the actual equipment (Tx and Rx) available today to the rc boat modeller it is woefully inadequate. Servos and speed controllers have changed little in function, albeit a number are now programmable having embraced the digital age. Battery technology has advanced in leaps and bounds, again this is an area where the book is dated. Should this book continue to be offered in further print runs I would suggest that it is thoroughly overhauled to bring it up to date, a sisyphusian task in some aspects given that when one leaves a shop with the latest equipment you have actually purchased yesterdays technology.

Very good book.
Very informative and well laid out book, giving lots of detail and insight into the subject of radio control!

OK but out of date
Not much use as the RC installations have not been updated to reflect current equipment.

Rather out of date
Rather out of date with mainly black-and-white photographs.
