There are a lot of reviews with feedback on air leaking. Here’s how I resolved this - set up only, no modifications - use 1 hose segment, then the leaf trap, then the rest of the hose links, then the vacuum at the end of the line. When pushing the leaf trap onto the first tube, make sure it is handle up, like it was a toolbox 🧰 with the handle up lowered into the water. When the handle is up, and the trap fills with water, the mass of the handle pushes the unit lower into the water and puts all the “leak points” underwater, as you want. You may need to “clock” the trap body to the first tube to assure an upward pointing handle. You can also feed the first feed tube through the skimmer tunnel if you are using the skimmer port. Or tie weights on the handle. For complaints about the hinge cracking, it makes sense and if the user does not take any care opening the top lid repeated stress may crack the hinge. Open it with some care and it will not break. This unit is durable, easy to open, latch opening, no screw thread hassle and the bag has lots of capacity. The bag also collects sand and fine particles, while many basket style traps let them pass by. If you use some easy setup techniques as described above the unit works fine.

As expected! I ordered this as replacement to the one I had for about 6 years. Does great job catching debris before reaching skimmer basket. I highly recommend if you use creepy crawler suction cleaner. Easy to install on hose and easy to clean.

As the leaves are just starting to fall, hooked this to the kreepy crawly and worked great. Likely before we put the pool down for the winter we will use the hand vacuum because of the volume of leaves. Will be easier than emptying the trap constantly.
