Buy A Smarter Way to Learn JavaScript: The new approach that uses technology to cut your effort in half: 1 1 by Myers, Mark (ISBN: 9781497408180) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: An absolutely awesome aid to help you conquer coding - A MUST BUY!!! - "We are thirsting for wisdom but drowning in information" TONY ROBBINS. I have been trying to learn to code for roughly 2 years with mixed results: I have bought the books, went to workshops and done the online courses but I felt that I wasn't really getting far. The problem wasn't the knowledge but it was keeping the knowledge in my brain. CODING IS HARD - don't let any of the "Learn JavaScript in 2 days" nonsense fool you! Still searching for help, but I found this book and it was brilliant and deceptively simple... 1) Read the exercises for 5 - 10 minutes 2) Do the online exercises via his website "asmarterwaytocode.com" 10 - 15 minutes 3) Take a break then repeat I have been using it a week now and I feel that I have retained more information when I have coded than just reading or doing on line quizzes! I feel really confident that I CAN become a coder and it's due to this book! One tip of advise: when you learn and practise the concepts via his website, try to apply them to your OWN projects. It will help make it stick out even more! A really great job and cheers to the author! Review: Perfect for a Beginner - Simple but thorough explanations in every chapter. Breaks it down into the basics and spends enough time with each new concept so that a beginner will properly understand it, unlike many online courses who do not explain the fundamentals adequately. Only criticism is that the exercises become repetitive and humdrum after chapter 20 or so. I'd recommend doing them for the first couple dozen chapters as it definitely helps drill in the syntax but afterwards, if you are picking up the language quite well, you will get much more out of your study sessions if you go to a JS coding site like JSFiddle.net and make your own code. This lets you get a bit more creative and will also ensure that you can write code and that it works the way you want it to. Otherwise a fantastic resource.

Perfect for absolute beginners like me
Perfect for absolute beginners like me. It seems strange seeing people who have already learned Java or C++ coming on here and criticising it for being too simple. It's obviously not meant for people who can already code. I love the system of bite-sized chapters, followed by hands on exercises that force you to be accurate. This book has engaged my learning ability in a way W3 schools have failed to achieve. For the first time, I am confidently learning a programming language. My only criticism is that the formatting of the book could be a little better and clearer. The site exercises are often explained in a way which I find very hard to follow. The one's which break down what is required into bullet points are much better. This would be a vast improvement. I'm dyslexic can suffer from 'wall of text' syndrome, even on small paragraphs. Overall though, I'm thrilled to be learning and feeling like I'm progressing. PLEASE do a book about programming in C next!

An absolutely amazing book, coming from having read several previous books on Learning to code JS, they all presume you to know many things and skip over concepts and expect you to know what is happening. Which can cause a lot of friction in the process of learning JS. This book is the book you need to read to know what is happening in other JS books. It focuses on the primary Foundation of JS and the best part is that the exercises that accompany every chapter work wonders for learning what is actually happening

Excellent publication supported by plenty of practical exercises
So far I’ve concentrated on learning the concepts of HTML and CSS. When looking at JavaScript I always found it a bit daunting and to be honest I couldn’t really make sense of the code snippets I used from the web and so I struggled to adapt them to my needs. I have signed up to www.Lynda.com which I find a fantastic resource that really suits my learning style. However, this book is better! Mark has really put a lot of effort into breaking the subject down into bite size concepts. He has spent a year writing 20 exercises for each topic (1,780 in all) and these give you the chance to practice what you’ve been told. There is some repetition but this helps to drive the message home and I find I remember what I did in previous topics rather than it making sense at the time and then seeming impossible again the next day. I would really recommend this book to anyone who’s unfamiliar with JavaScript. For the cost of the book you get all his practical lessons for free and this seems to me to be really good value for money.

Excellent
As a newbee to the world of coding and being of a more senior age I found this eBook to very very good. I have tried other books and although they give the details of the codes shown and an explanation of each one I found them to be a bit hard to grasp at first. The fact that this book breaks down individual code in 1 small chapter. Example a single chapter on the if statement, with other chapters on if...else, instead of other books which group them together. A small issue granted, but as the books title says, "A smarter way to LEARN....", these are valuable to the uninitiated. The fact that each chapter is accompanied by a question and answer session, which through its format instills the basics of the chapter topic, is very rewarding. Plus these can be repeated if you don't quite get it. As a book for the beginner, and those of senior years :-), it is fully recommended abd very much worth the cost

After trying online classes, tutorials and other books; I have found this resource to get me off the ground when it comes to Javascript programming. The chapters are very short and east to assimilate. The online practice at first seems overly picky (when it comes to semantic) but it has a great purpose. I do and redo the exercises until i get them right. I can not recommend this book enough to those who want to try their hands at programming.

If you are new to computer programming, and want to learn JavaScript, this is "The Book". Or if you just want a book that does not assume any prior knowledge, and you like to learn things from square one, then this book is for you. This book gently teaches you the basics by constant repetition via the great, free, companion website. If you prefer doing versus reading, then this book gives you just enough knowledge in a couple of pages, to get you started programming in no time. Highly recommended. This should be required reading!

Quick. Effective. Ready to learn? GO! Much more than a book. I found it really useful. I'm learning fast and furious.
