Good piece of kit
Why did you choose this product over others?:Very handy bit of kit, easy to use and set up, great for use with a laptop.

very useful portable adaptable dvd player.
I have not fully used it yet as I have had a problem with the laptop. I like the fact that the main contact with the computer leads are attached to the dvd. Useful bit of kit. Being a bit critical and others might not find this a problem. The only problem one might have is the power lead is a bit small could do with being longer In case you need to use a plug you might not have a usb c and are limited with usbs it does say that you should not use it with a hub. and my usbs are on the sides of the laptop the instructions also advise using a hub that is at the back of a desk top so again that is not so easy.

It does what it's meant to do, not much more.
I want to start by saying I've only used this drive with an M1 MacBook Air, I've not tried it on a PC or other OS.I bought it to rip my audio CD collection, and at first I had some issues with the discs not auto-mounting. I had to go into Disk Utility and manually mount the CD, then it worked fine. However after a reboot and a few hours use, it magically started working correctly, so I'm going to put that down to an issue with MacOS more than with this drive. It's something to keep in mind if you don't see your disc being mounted on the desktop though. Then build quality feels a little cheap, the drive is very light and a bit bulky thanks to the built-in USB hub. It seems like it's put together fine, it's just not a premium feeling device. Also, the hub and card reader on the back are quite slow, so not something I would use, except in an emergency. This drive has an attached cable with USB-C and USB-A connectors, which is quite convenient, especially if you just want to travel with it. No extra cables or power supplies required. However, the cable is only about 20cm at full stretch, which means it might not work well as a permanent part of a desktop setup, as it's going to have to sit right next to your computer. Those minor niggles aside, I had no other problems when using this. It read CDs, DVDs and CD-Rs just fine. I've not tried the Lightscribe functionality or writing disks yet, so I can't vouch for those features. Overall, it feels a little cheap, but it gets the job done and it's good value.

Only bought it to access some old family photo's i had put on disc years ago, it did that job. it made a hell of a lot of creaking and groaning doing that one job but it did that job, and then i threw it in the bin with all the other rubbish.

Nice unit, but why the Windows 11 footnote?
I bought this to rip some music CDs for the car.It arrived well packaged and in good time. Inside there's a skinny USB cable, which, not having read the instructions, caused some initial confusion. I hadn't noticed that the main USB cable tucked neatly away in a recess on the underside of the unit. The skinny cable is meant to be a power cable, but it seems to work without it - at least for reading discs. The drive seems quite solid, with a metal casing.Having plugged in the main cable to a USB A slot on my computer, I found that the drive was recognised, both when booted into Linux Mint as well as Windows 11. For some reason there's a footnote on the listing, stating that the drive isn't detected on Windows 11 - strange.I managed to rip music using Windows, as well as Linux Mint (21.3), although Linux Mint (or SoundKonverter) occasionally appeared to lose the drive. I suspected this was a Linux issue at first, since I didn't see similar behaviour on Windows 11 - at least not straight away. After a couple of days frustration I realised it was a PSU problem, which has been symptomatic since a CPU upgrade - the drive was tipping my PC over the edge. When I plugged the drive into a powered USB, connected via my KVM switch, it worked flawlessly - phew!All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this drive.
