One happy Mum!
My son is 8 and it's sometimes a battle to get him to read. I bought this book for him after reading some reviews and now he can't put the book down and has asked for the next book in the series. One happy Mum!

Good concept
Although the story concept is good the style of writing just didn't appeal to my 7 year old (or me). It's written by a US author which I hadn't realised and the narrative is a bit US centric, so not as enjoyable or familiar (for a young reader) as it would be with a UK setting/narrative. That's not a criticisim of the author, but just personal view. We had a quick look and decided not to bother, returned the item.

Slaying monsters and acid bombs
I have thought long and hard about the rating. I have a mature 6yr old who loved this book and we (the royal we) read between one and two chapters a night. Despite me thinking it was probably more for 9-10 year olds, he enjoyed it and loved the slaying of monsters. The 'boy loves girl' thing probably went over his head. I didn't like some of the language and mainly the use of the word 'freaking'. However, my 6yr old had no complaints. As such, it's a winner.

Kids and guns don't mix
"and there, waiting for me, is a whole mess of the undead suckers" - if you are into this type of language, or into illustrations of "acid bubbling on forehead wound" and related junk you may want to consider buying this book. I feel that there is absolutely no room for splatter imagery and the glorification of killing sprees in childrens' books

Laughter filled zombie books
Currently our favorite book series. While the themes are a touch scary for my 8 year old reader, the writing has enough laughter and not a ton of gore that he enjoys it. The humor is perfect for this age.
