Lovely watch, not wear and forget. It may not work for long. Only recommended for watch enthusiast.
This is a great watch for the price. It looks fantastic, has an amazing sea-gull chronograph movement and can be pretty accurate and robust. However buying and owning this watch is not without its problems and you really need to be a serious watch enthusiast to put up with some inconveniences.I’ve given it 5 stars because if you get a good one (not a certainty) and are ok with its foibles then it is a fantastic watchThere are many configurations of this watch and I suggest the 38mm (the light dial makes it look larger on the wrist), with swan neck (this allows a watchmaker to easily adjust its accuracy if needed), exhibition case-back ( it’s a must to be able to see the amazing mechanical movement) and sapphire crystal (much less likely to scratch than the acrylic crystal).ProsLooks amazing both from the front and the back which shows off the beautifully complex mechanical movement. The mechanical feel of using the chronograph is so much nicer than a quartz one (even better than a mecha-quartz movement)Comfortable, once you have ditched the cheap supplied strapSimple but well finished case. You can end up with a pretty accurate one at under plus or minus 10 seconds per day. It’s an iconic watch for an enthusiast.Cheap way of getting a hand wound movement (it’s not an automatic and doesn’t wind itself)Buying it from amazon gives you piece of mind if you need to get a refund, which is quite likely.ConsI am currently on my second watch as the first one broke within a week. This is to be expected. Apparently the care and attention during assembly of the watch can be iffy causing big quality issues. I love this watch so much that I am will to have three attempts at getting a good one and you have to enter purchasing with this sort of attitude. You will have to buy a better strap (but the watch deserves it)The movement is non-hacking (the hands do not stop when you pull out the crown). This makes it difficult to set the watch. It’s a hand wind only so you have to remember to wind it up. This may be an inconvenience to anyone who isn’t into watches. Not water resistant. It’s a throw away watch. Like all mechanical watches, after a few years it will need servicing but to service this complicated sea-gull movement is likely to cost more than you paid for it. Having said that most mechanical watch actually last ten years or so before needing a service.Usually when you buy a cheap mechanical watch it will have one of the cheap and simple movements from large companies such as Seiko or Miyota (owned by Citizen). This will be much more robust and likely to be far more accurate than the Sea-gull. If you get twitchy when your watch is a few second out then this one is probably not for you.Because of what I have said above It’s not really an every-day watch. It is also not a good gift idea as it may well need replacing.AdviceSetting the timeIt is notoriously difficult to set the time on a non-hacking watch but I do the following. My seagull 1963 gains around 13 seconds a day. When it is 30 seconds ahead I put the minute hand back 1 minute as the watch second hand comes up to the minute marker. My watch is now around 30 seconds behind the actual time and I can leave it running like this in the knowledge that it is never more than 30 seconds out until it is once again 30 ahead of the real time and can I repeat the process. If your watch loses time then just put the minute hand forward a minute. If you are comfortable with larger maximum loss or gain then use this method accordingly.

Functional and looks great for day to day wear.
I think the Seagull is an excellent for daily wear. I wear it in work every day and have been using it as my daily watch since it was delivered. At the time of this review I have had it for 6 weeks and it has only gained/lost (depending on how wound it is) 15 seconds per day, I know that probably doesn’t seem great to most people, but it has been consistently keeping to this since day one.The one issue I have is a minor one: The straps. The 2 straps it comes with are both totally usable, but they are not that great quality, so I have ordered better straps to use with this watch. I would absolutely recommend this watch to anyone if you like mechanical watches: Better than expected accuracy for a watch at this price point and it looks good.

How many turns of the crown should i wind the watch at a time
How often should I wind this watch and how many turns of the crown at a time should I wind i do not want to over wind the watch but it keeps on stopping after around ten hours of wear

Excellent and beautiful watch, uniquely superb value, no other watch like it.
Bought the 38mm with the swan neck adjustment, and sapphire crystal. Lovely combination. Classic style and size. Beautifully done. Hands line up perfectly, indices beautifully applied. Two straps, the leather one really gives it class and adds to the classic look. Bought for my adult son, had to punch an additional hole for it to fit ideally on a smallish wrist. It all works perfectly and so far keeps good time. In any case is finely adjustable with the swan neck.Downsides? A couple. It's an old design. That's what makes it a classic look and excellent value. But, it also means it's not really waterproof beyond light hand washing. Remembering to take a watch off to do the dishes or whatever is not something you think about nowadays. The other is the rather alarming warning not to allow the stopwatch to go past 30 minutes or it will damage the mechanism. That's a worry. Finally delivery. Not Sugess's fault at all. DHL. Left it on the doorstep fully visible on a main road without notification, and despite a safe place being declared. I'm genuinely considering not buying items delivered by DHL. It's an issue for stuff of value. Conclusion? Excellent and beautiful watch, uniquely superb value, nothing like it.

Surprisingly good.
Given the price, I wasn't expecting much, but this watch has proven to be excellent. The dial is simple, well executed and clear. A lovely looking movement is visible through the display case back. It's not highly decorated, but it's a pleasure to see the workings ticking along. The watch runs well too, seeming to run around plus 4 seconds a day, so well regulated. Delivery was much faster than expected also. Excellent!

A beautiful uncomplicated watch with genuine retro styling.
I like the colour of the dial, the blue steel hands and the simplicity of delicate gold indices. The exhibition back reveals a beautifully intricate movement . With one nylon(nato)strap and a light brown leather strap this watch is good value for money.

Not too bad.
It gains about a minute a week but it looks great. It’s a mechanical watch with no hacking so it needs to completely run out of power if you want to set it accurately too.

Superb value and a great first mechanical watch
I own one of these but didn’t buy from here. The watch keeps great time - not brilliant but acceptable, and certainly good for the price. My favourite thing is the clear case back. As it’s a manual wind watch there’s no rotor obscuring the movement and it affords the best possible view of how a watch works. It’s so cheap that I wear it for gardening, handiwork etc. with a nato strap which can be washed and swapped easily. Only downside - hands and dial don't have massive contrast so in low light (no lume) it’s tough to read at a glance. Minor drawback for a mechanical chronograph watch under 200 quid.
